STD - thoughts please *flash*

Gurzle, 18 March, 2012 at 18:09 Posted on Planning 0 6

This is my first attempt at a STD - I am trying to cut some costs, as my idea for invitations is quite expensive, so I have had a go with Vistaprint this arvo.

I was thinking of sticking this little card to a piece of hessian, as I am going for a fairly 'rustic-y' look.

What are your thoughts? (Not ordered it yet, so please be honest)

Also, is it clear that if you stay at the hotel, we will provide a coach to ferry you about all day and then take you back to the hotel at the end of the evening? We fiddled about with the wording for a while and this was the best we could come up with... "Should you choose to stay at this hotel, transport will be provided for you both to and from the wedding venue"

Normally a save the date is just the date and the city or county. All the timings, hotels, venues are included in the formal invite. If you give out that info you may as well just make these your invites. If you give out dribs and drabs of info but not enough detail, people will query the extra details etc.

Your pic is a bit too small to see.

The design looks nice though and will probably be fine without being stuck to hessian. Vista print stuff looks really good!

Looks really good, we used vista print too. What DB said, you don't need to put any other info on STDs other than your name and the date. Everything else goes in the invite. They're just to ensure people put the date in their diary.

Oooh, we had these STDs!! They were lovely when they came!

We are also providing a coach for guests who stay at our designated hotel but didn't put anything on the STDs. As you can see, only the county went on there. Everything else went with invites, which were sent out last month.

If you do want to put about the coach on the STD though then I think your wording is very good.

I think the info you want/need to put on save the dates depends on when you plan to send your invitations. We are getting married away from home so people will need to book hotels etc (and it may be a race weekend - venue near york racecourse - so hotels will get filled up quickly) so we have put details of hotels on our save the dates.

We will send save the dates about 14 months prior to wedding and formal invites about 3 months before.

If you're sending these with plenty of time to also send invitations i wouldn't bother with all that information. Ours had our names and the date and place where we're getting married on it, and also said 'Formal invitations to follow' You could ask put a phone/email address for people to request further information if they really wanted it, but generally all that information is included in your invitations. People lose/forget it all otherwise.

Thanks all - Schiocco, I think I prefer your colour!

I added info about hotels as I thought some people might wish to book in advance, we are sending the STDs out with about 9 months to go, and then the invitations with about 31/2 months to go.

I just read your feedback back to the boy, and he completely agrees that people may then begin to ask for extra info and querying other details. However he then said, "What if there are some real keanos who go and book a hotel anyway as soon as they receive a STD?"

    Crumbs...decisions, decisions....

Thanks so much for all of your feedback ladies

Have just realised you all said "Just put a county" for a reason...if I just put 'Essex' no one can jump the gun and book another hotel....Essex is far too big to do that!

Ok - thank you for this, you've helped me sort out an extremely boring problem. Very much appreciated! ?
