Still puzzling over invitations...

*Nursey*, 26 June, 2011 at 20:36 Posted on Planning 0 29

Right... I want to get my invites all done by November so I can sort them and have them ready to post after Christmas. That gives me 5 months to decide and then make them...

But I can't find what I want. I want them to symbolise the kind of day we will have. Eg Country Wedding/Campervan/Sage Green and Dusky Pink

HELP Please!

Sorry forgot to add the picture of the one I like but still isn't quite right! OH doesn't want a full-on VW one, he wants more traditional...

Was going to change the pink flowery wrap to green, and have a pink ribbon. Mum says the ribbon's too similar to my brother's wedding invites though

Who cares? It's your wedding, nobody else's choice what your invites look like.

Let's face it here, there are only so many options available to us all for any aspect of our wedding, so there's a very good chance that almost everything we choose to do on our big day someone will have done before us, and it's quite possible that family members will have done the same thing at some point in the past.

My dad got married wearing a suit in 1971 but that doesn't mean I can't wear a suit now does it?

If you want a similar design to your brother's invites, then go ahead, do it, and stuff anyone who doesn't like it Smiley smile

I know what you're saying AJ, but it's not as easy as that. I don't really care if they're the same, but I don't want to copy a close friend/family member whose wedding is close to my date. So I would have something similar to my best friend's, who got married 3 years ago, but not to my cousin's, who is getting married 9 months before me. Also, I have to be careful with my Mum as I properly fell out with her last time so want the "proper" mother/daughter experience, not WW3

I like that one I flashed (ribbon or no ribbon!) but something's not quite right...

Nursey, have you ordered a sample of that invite? Its called Jasper and i ordered it in green from WHSMITh i think? i liked it too. I would order it and see what you think, what i didnt like was there wasnt enough room to add other info and the bow on it doesnt undo just slides off, iykwim. Order it and see what you think.

Yeah, I did order it but wasn't 100% taken by it. If I can't find anything else then it'll do, but that's how I feel about it. I want everything to be just right though.

I like some of Mrs C's ideas... better see what OH thinks...

Nursie - how about the ones that are printed on a tea towel? They look great, are practical, eco friendly and will give your guests a taste of the day to come.

NB2B - I am pondering over invites as well and cannot make up my mind.

Really like the ones you flashed first (I know this doesn't help you much, sorry!)

We had the same problem in that my OH didn't like any bought ones I saw and vice versa so we ended up designing our own and my mum made them for us (she is retired and likes that kind of thing). You have loads of time so could do the same thing - copy the bits you like and then personalise in your own colour scheme and theme eg using twine instead of ribbon. If you go to Paperchase or Hobbycraft you'll be amazed how much stuff you can buy yourself that you see online and will leave feeling really inspired

I went to Hobbycraft for inspiration but came back feeling frustrated. Problem is that I think that I have a look that I want to achieve but I don't know how to do it.

Mrs C - That would be too simple, of course he hasn't! ?

CB - I love those tea towel ones but aren't they expensive? I'll need to send out about 40 I think

    WPJS.

I had real problems finding invitations..... took over three months of quite frustrating but intense searching to finally find something we were both happy with. The only way it got resolved was my OH and I working together ultimately. Originally, I would present him with sample and he would dismiss them saying "Too traditional", "Too girly" etc.... (which didn't really say anything about what he was wanting). In the end, we had to work out what we liked and didn't like about invites and both search for other ideas. Also, I think we both had to let go a bit of the image of what we wanted in our head for two reasons: 1. the image I and he had were different and 2. what I wanted wasn't doable (but it took a long time for me to understand this).

    Good luck with the search.

Could you do something like have an invite with a pic of the two of you on the front instead. Or just go for text in a fun font in the colours you are having rather than an image.

Good idea Raincloud but my Mum suggested it too. Mr NB thought it would be a bit egocentric. Thought having an arty pic of our camper wouldn't be right as people wouldn't "get" it.

He likes the Jasper ones but not in pink, but our main colour's sage green so that's ok. It's me who's being fussy on that one!

I think we'll end up with just printing the words on card, with a green border... Sigh. I like those as they're simple and classy, but would just prefer to reflect my theme a bit

Maybe it would be helpful to have a consultation with a local stationery company together and then you can discuss which elements you like and dont like and then they could hopefully come up with a sample that combines them. A lot of places do personalised samples so you would get to see it in your colours.

As you said, it is so much easier to see what you like and don't when its in front of you.
