Stopping cats sucking things

Clairy, 20 October, 2008 at 11:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

Ah, one of my 16 week old kittens has a grim habit - he likes to suck and suckle things - and sometimes he persuades his brother to do it too. He had a favourite cushion, which we moved, and he didn;t do it for ages, but now he likes to suck your clothes. It's bloody grim having a dribbly t-shirt. Any ideas?

Give him his own cushion or an old t-shirt for him to suck on? One of mine has a toy, fabric frog he carries around the house and he constantly rubs his jaw along it and he sucks on one of the legs. It's very cute. ?

It's unlikely that he'll grow out of it, so I agree to try and substitute whatever he sucks for something else. If you use the same thing each time, hopefully that will become the favourite/only one. Can the cushion be sacrified?

My Aunts cat was taken from her mother too young, and was still sucking people's jumpers when she was about 12!

You can't stop it I have tried! My cat suckles on my blanket, I just leave her to it now.
