Stopping smoking

sparkle_kez, 2 December, 2008 at 15:40 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Im on day 5 off the fags and finding it incredibly tough this afternoon. Ive been horrible to my husband for no reason and I just WANT A FAG! I stopped as Ive had bronchitis and couldnt smoke so though I may as well stay off them, not using anything although i do have gum its horrible and I only had 1 piece on day 2.

Dont really know why Im posting this, Im so proud of myself for going this long but I also hate feeling so snappy and short with eveyone. Dont think it helps that the boilers broken so Im freezing cold as well!

Stopping smoking is horrible. Have you read Allan Carr? He really helped me...... the first time. Apart from a couple of slips I haven't had a fag for about 6 weeks.

Keep at it - it's worth it in the long run. ?

I've done that!! It's really weird, you can actually feel the craving. Thankfully I didn't have it when I woke up.

You need to do something to take your mind off it. Put yourself into a situation where you couldn't smoke anyway.

If you haven't had one for 5 days, then it's purely psychological - the nictonie was out of your system 3 days ago, so WELL DONE!!!

When I quit, I told myself if I still wanted one in 10 mins, I could have one. I never did.

Another ex-smoker here, 3 months and counting.

The first weeks are the hardest and I did re-start a couple of times.

I really didn't think I could do it, but I kept battling on and counting how long it was since I'd had one. After a few days I didn't want to have one then go back to "1 day without a fag" etc and build up again. As the days go by I felt more proud of myself and didn't want to go back.

Keep going, it's worth it in the end.

Seriously, this is the hardest bit and if you can make it through then you're well on your way to becoming a non-smoker.

I signed up to the NHS Stop Smoking service - it was great, they send you stuff and ring you to see how you're getting on. Knowing someone would be phoning to check I was still off the fags how I was coping helped keep me off them. I didn't want to admit failure!

You did the right thing posting. I quit last year using the patches (three weeks, going down in strengths per week) and found that really helped.

Of course I started again in June (blamed a family trauma - idiot) so I'll be joining you on Jan 1st - only you'll have a massive head start!

Another ex-smoker here- 4th July 2007 was my independence day! I read Allan Carr and haven't looked back. Seriously well done you, it's a tough old job, but just think about how far you've come- the first few days are by far the worst and I'm pretty sure you don't want to have to go through them again, which you would have to do if you caved now. Husband and friends will understand if you're a bit tetchy from time to time, too. Well done again, don't give up on giving up!
