Storage space for wedding stuff

Nutella, 30 January, 2012 at 22:33 Posted on Planning 0 11

Prompted by wanting to order my centrepiece vases and mirrorplates now..

Seriously how do people cope with all the stuff that accumulates ahead of a wedding? We've already had to buy a new bookcase, but only have a 1 bed flat so theres no space for all this stuff.

Vicious circle as well, trying to save money so we can buy a big house after the wedding but saving money often means DIY'ing stuff which means needing to store stuff!!!!!!!

My parents live 3 hours away so it seems silly to take stuff all the way up there, plus we'd only then have to find a way to get it all back down again for the wedding. OH's parents are much nearer but don't have an any space to store stuff other than a smoky lounge or a cobwebby garage!!

My Nan has temporarily donated a large guest room to me for me to fill with my bits and bobs. It's really good having somewhere safe and spacious to hang my dress and veil etc.

Lord know where it would all go if not!

For wedding gowns in particular, storing the veil in the box with the dress is acceptable, but the two must not touch each other. Plastic, wire and trim on the headpiece or veil could damage the gown. It’s best to store shoes and crinolines separately from the dress and veil to prevent damage.

Those of you with spare rooms, dining rooms etc don't know how lucky you are!!

We have 1 bedroom, 1 living room, 1 bathroom and 1 kitchen. Thats it! No garage, but we do have a tiny attic which is already full ☹️

Looks like I might have to try and use parents then even though it will be a huge logistical PITA!

How much is it to rent those storage containers (the big yellow kind) these days? - OK never done it but if its reasonable and they let you have access anytime it might work ... maybe

My OH was astonished that a week after getting engaged I had a box dedicated to wedding stuff. I currently have an accumulation of things on the living room floor and have no idea where they're going to go. My parents are moving away soon and I don't really want all my wedding stuff to move away as well. I have a one bed flat with no attic or garage or anything, might have to get rid of something less important like the sofa lol.
