Strange question - Civil Ceremony

RomanticGoldConfetti108, 8 February, 2015 at 13:35 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi All!

sorry may be a bit of a silly question but I'm starting to panick over small things now.

Looking a pictures of our wedding venue, there are seats for the guests either side of the aisle as usual, then at the bottom there is a little table with two sets of seats either side. I presume two are for the registra and 2 are for myself and my h2b? When do we have to sit down and stand up during the ceremony? Is it just for the signing papers? Also does the best man stand up the whole ceremony too?

many thanks!

It depends really. Some couples sit whilst the registrar talks then stand for their vows and ring exchange. Others only sit for the signing of the register.

In our experience most couples choose to stand throughout the duration of the ceremony.

Once the bride has arrived, most of the time the Best man will be seated throughout. However if he is also acting as a witness or will have the rings, then he'll be called up at some point for that Smiley smile

We stood all the way through and then sat to sign the register but we chose option C...the quick one!

Do you get a rehearsal for civil ceremonies? If not it might be worth asking for one if you're worried!

Don't panic! We sat off to the side at the beginning while the registrar spoke, then stood for vows and rings, then sat to sign at the table. At my best friends wedding, the sat with their backs to the room for the first bit, then stood for the vows and rings, then sat again for signing. In both cases, the best man sat until he was needed with the normal guests (on the front row obviously)
