Strapless bra nightmare

miss.understood, 17 January, 2011 at 19:06 Posted on Planning 0 28

As an ex weight trainer my back is broad. I need a strapless bra pronto!

There are so many different sites that tell you umpteen different ways to measure. Generally i'm a 48C, though with pregnancy my ❤️❤️'s do appear to be fuller than usual.

According to some sites i'm a 48C, others a 50D, a 48D blah blah blah

I ordered one to try last week which was a 48C, and it was too big on the cup size.

Where on earth can i get a decent supportive strapless bra around a size 48C

It's a nightmare.

The Wonderbra ultimate strapless bra is amazing, it has hands inside the cup and is so supportive, not sure what size they go up to though, sorry x

    WWS!!

I Have one of those and I can say hand on heart I have never found a strapless bra like it!! Mine is a 38DD but Im the same as you and go up or down depending on the make of bra.

I got mine from Debenhams and Im sure they had bigger sizes than mine. Mine was £35, but it was the best money I ever spent!

It is amazing, holds you up as good as a normal bra and feels so secure!

give one a bash and let me know what you think.

Id suggest going in to M&S and getting fitted as they will fit u into a strapless bra there and then! plus the do nice ones for large sizes!

rumour has it that M&S have special sizing tho so whatever they say u are, its unlikely you'll be the same elsewhere!

This is from Perfect Wedding Magazines 'Lessons in Lingerie' -

"While strapless bras are wonderful for smaller cups, they can come in limited sizes, so if you have a fuller bust you may have trouble finding a design that provides enough support."

maybe you should choose a different bra type? perhaps with pretty straps that match your dress?

the worst thing would be to be constantly re-arranging your bra all day!

    xx

The only problem with that is in my experience as I have big boobs my bra straps tend to dig in to my shoulders a bit and wouldnt be at all comfortable having bra straps on show!

I'll be wearing a satin bolero but will likely ditch this on the night time, but i deffo don't think i'll want straps showing.

I have a strapless bra, which is a 48C but it's not very supportive any more so it sits in the drawer doing nothing. plus the middle bit where the underwires come between the cleavage doesn't sit against my skin, it more sort of pushes away. what does this mean?! bigger cup size? surely i'm not at a D already?!

then the other one i ordered is a 48C fits perfect except for on the cups and it's huuuuuuuge there.

Bravissimo do some lovely stuff - but dont go up to the bigger cup sizes - they claim to but you try finding a nice bra in a 40DD on there...its only the past couple of months that theyve started doing nice ones in that size.

I wouldnt suggest you go to Marks and Spencer - they dont measure properly, Debenhams or La Senza is what I would suggest. Get measured and then you know what bra to buy Smiley smile. Well from that shop anyway lol x

Do you think you could go down one size on the back cos that way the cups might fit??

    I could certainly try a 46C

I should cut my losses and order every damn bra on the internet!

Not being funny but are you doing your bra up on the right hooks? You are meant to do them up on the loosest hooks when you first buy the bra, then as it stretches with use you go onto the smaller hooks which apparently not everyone knows. It might make it easier for you to get away with a 46C if you are doing your bra up on the loosest hooks. Good luck!

I've compared different bra's over a few sites, and they all offer the same as above. I have an account with Ambrose Wilson, so have just ordered another 4 strapless bras in 46B, 46C, etc see if a smaller back size does the job. If not i'm duct taping them!

So far various sites and their measuring techniques have said i'm the following:

    48C

    46C

    48B

    48DD

    52B

It's just not possible! i've only got one pair and i've even had bra's (with straps) fitted properly and they are 48C, i think only one was a 48D because it was a balconette style.

You know when you get THAT rattled with something you can literally feel your heart rattling around your chest in rage??? i have that now.

(h2b seems to find this rather amusing so i just threatened him with the car.....he just spent 2 hours professionally valeting my black ST170 - focus, and i told him if he doesn't stop his laughing i will take the car to the lake and drive at speed through EVERY muddy puddle i can find just to spite him!)

Oh I no the feeling!! Onto my third underwear set now ☹️

The one you have which isn't supportive anymore, is that because it's tired or you've changed shape too much with the pregnancy? I was just wondering if you could look to get a new one the same?

I am wary of "measuring methods"... the ONLY foolproof way of finding out what size you need is to try on the bra.

With strapless styles you will need a smaller back size, so that is what I'd recommend.

Most people wear a back size that is too big and as a consequence think they are a smaller cup size than they really are. I wear a 32FF and most people are surprised by that. But it's the same cup size as a 38DD. Once I started wearing the correct size my backaches disappeared and I stood better and looked better. It was like a revelation. Your bra SHOULD be tight (not uncomfortably so) as otherwise it's not offering support... it's just sliding around on top of your skin.

EYour back size seems very large in relation to your cup size... I definitely recommend checking that you are not larger in the cup and smaller in the back?

    A couple of tips:

    - Matalan... Seem to have loads of large sizes when I last visited

    - La Senza - I have two strapless bras with them, both 36E. I am not sure they go really big, but have a look

    - US stores are often really great for bras, although I have noticed they fit a bit different. I am a 36E, but in the US I take a 38DD. I shop in JC Penney a lot - have a look at http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=STY&ItemID=12a300b&DeptID=70659&CatID=71387&SO=0&SelDim=3~622+5~&x5view=1&Ne=622+11+8+5+586+1031+18+904+949+833&shopperType=G&N=4294953584+376+4294966932&Nao=0&PSO=0&CmCatId=70659|71387

Also, have you thought about a bustier? This would provide additional support around your back and would hold you in place.

    Good luck!

I measured my back size, as did H2B, and my mother...and we all got the same measurement. So the back size has to be right. It's the same size as i was measured for a bra for last year. It's just the cup size that is not adding up.

I can't wear a bustier, i'm a plus size anyway which makes it awkward, i'm near 12 weeks pregnant now, will be 16 weeks for the wedding and i can't stand anything lower down my back than a bra fastening as i've had extensive spinal surgery and my scars are really sensitive. xx

As I said though, most people wear a back size that's far too big for them. If you measure using any form of measuring tape you will almost undoubtedly get the wrong size.

According to the jc penney size chart, they put me at a 48C. (48 under bust, and 51 fullest part) their chart says thats a 48C.
