String quartet

BlossomJ, 10 January, 2013 at 16:16 Posted on Planning 0 12

Has anyone recently booked a string quartet or can recommend one to me? I have looked on the websites but I am looking for one that does quite a lot of popular music. I'm getting married in Leicestershire so any local to there or willing to travel would be great ?

My friend had an awesome one in Derbsyhire, let me ask her, they were great and did stuff like Gun n Roses as well as the traditional stuff!

They're called A touch of class, they're based in Chesterfield she said but they travel I reckon. I remember them being really good, very professional, played her entrance and then the reception right through to the dinner.

Hi, we used Endymion Strings who were excellent and have a long list of modern stuff. They are Manchester based but and I married in Yorkshire but even with extra costs for travel I found them more reasonable than any local quote I found.

Just had a look and they seem about the same prices as local ones I've found, so think they would be a bit too much for us with travel included. Thank you though ?

I used Highly Strung who are based in Derbyshire but do travel.

They were very very good, played a variety of classic and modern music and you can specify as much or as little of the music you'd like them to play as you would like. They were really easy to communicate with and one of the most hassle-free elements of my wedding Smiley smile

Thank you Viki Smiley smile They are one of the ones I've looked at, but it's always reassuring to get a proper testimonial if that makes sense as I always worry that the testimonials on suppliers' sites could just be made up! I think I will contact the those and A Touch of Class and ask for full repertoire to see which ones have songs that I like!

    Hi,

I run a String Quartet / Trio. I have just bough an advert on here actually covering the Lancs area! Feel free to look for us and get in touch if you would like a quote. Our prices start from £250.

Just beware of going through agencies as you will pay a lot more. x

I had Apollo Strings but down in london so I imagine not suitable for ooop north, but just wanted to say how everyone loved it, and got so many comments about it. I think a beautiful touch if budget allows...

Try Nero String Quartet, they won the Live Entertainment Wedding Industry Award West Midlands (I was runner up behind them ?). They have quite a lot of popular music in their repertoire.

I'm using a solo violinist called Simon Jordan. He plays with or without a pianist (they supply the piano if required). Simon is brilliant because he can play anything, and he can move around (which a string quartet cannot do) to follow the action... and he's letting me choose every tune! Something about the violin/piano combination that can take on far more than a string quartet. We tried so many solutions but have been so excited by this. Hope this helps!
