Struggling to Find A Venue

Paula1b, 22 December, 2008 at 12:17 Posted on Planning 0 7

My OH and I want a very relaxed and casual wedding that reflects us but we are struggling to find somewhere.

We know exactly what we want but we just can't seem to find the venue.

It has to be in this country as we want our families and friends there and we wanr to be able to have a very casual BBQ type wedding breakfast rather than the traditional sit down.

We don't really want a big country manor or hotel chain so having looked and looked and looked, I thought I would try you lovely ladies as you always seem to come up with great ideas!

Something simple like an independant boutitque hotel or modern barn would be perfect.

We are in Surrey but can travel if it is the pefect venue,

Ideally would like the whole thing in the one place too.

If anyone knows of anywhere lovely that sounds like it might suit I would love to hear about it!

I have managed to find a few but none of them are quite right yet.

Thanks in advance

x

Are you planning a civil ceremony? if so then your best best is to get in touch with your local county council to get a complete list of all their licensed venues and work from that.

eta: when are you thinking of getting married?

I went to a wedding on saturday that was in a lovely old house the bride and groom had booked for the weekend. There were about 20 of us, but you could hire the whole place for 40 people (with barns etc). They also had a chef and waitresses you could hire but the groom did all the cooking (I would have had a breakdown). may be too far for you as the houses are in the peak district/Derbyshire but the website is party houses.co.uk.

may be worth a look-it was a lovely wedding

I don't know if Kent is too far for you, but thought I'd reply just in case. We are getting married at Cooling Castle Barn, it's made up of three renovated barns and can cater for however big or small/relaxed etc you want your wedding to be: https://www.coolingcastlebarn.com/

I don't know whether it's what you had in mind but thought I would post it just in case, obviously in my opinion it's a beautiful venue!

You don't say what your budget is so apologies if these are way off the mark:

    https://bury-court.com

https://www.guildford.com/ (a hotel but will let you use outside caterers)

When my fiance and I were looking, we had a look at this place:

    https://www.greyfriarshouse.co.uk/

The only reason we didn't book it was that we had too many people and couldn't cut the guest list any more!

It's a family home, but is licensed. They only do 20 weddings a year so it's a bit exclusive. It has nice gardens with a gorgeous view over the Surrey hills and it's close to Guildford, so it's easy to get to.

The couple who own it and run the weddings were so helpful and friendly, and you could pretty much do what you liked, so there was a way of personalising it.

I was a bit disappointed that we couldn't use that place!

I'd recomend having a look if you think it's your type of thing.

Hope that might be of some help!

    Bury Court Barn is lovely...

Farnham House Hotel, very close too, quite small and intimate.

Gate Street Barn in Bramley is lovely.

Loseley House has a great Tithe Barn.
