Stuck for table names... is this stupid?

HatTrick, 17 November, 2009 at 13:42 Posted on Planning 0 28

Me and OH were in the same form throught secondary school so thats hmmmmm............. 7 years?? I'm really stuck on names for the tables and have thought about teacher's who taught us (surnames) i.e. Vaughan, Nicholls, Grierson and so on.

Am I insane?? We haven't been on many holidays together or anything else like that, the only other thing I could think of was butterfly names but I think that's a bit twee.

Honest opinions appreciated ?

I suppose so, I just fancied something a bit different from 1, 2, 3. OH thinks I'm off my rocker and can't possibly understand why someone would want to name a table!!

I think table names work so long as your guests 'get' the connection - otherwise they can be a little random.

Ideas I've seen that work well:

Places from holidays together (which you've said wouldn't suit you)

    Local placenames

Films/Songs you both love (my cousin did this)

Pubs you dated in (had a fab b&g who did this, their guests loved it!)

(mine) Grand Prix Circuits with a map of each circuit (we went to Montreal for the GP for honeymoon)

Family names (only works for those with BIG families or SMALL amount of guests!)

    Colours

    Flowers/Plants/Trees

    Or just 1,2,3 or a,b,c

I'm not so sure about the names for the same reason as claire198421 said but could you not have something else school related like subjects? Would your guests know you met at school?

Yeah most guests would know that. I did think about subjects but we were always in different sets as I was a bit of a nerd, so the only class we were really in togther was form. Hmmm maybe just 1,2,3 then....

Yeah how about naming them after classes you shared at school? or restaurants you love? or places you want to visit? or the places your grandparents and parents got married?
or each of the years you have known eachother?

there are so many ways of doing it but 1,2,3, is always a good option too.

I like the teachers names idea....you could ask the DJ / Master of Ceremonies to announce that whoever guesses the link correctly will win a bottle of champers, or something like that?!

Hmmm - honestly? Personally I'm not keen.

What about concerts you've been to, bands you like, songs, films, family names, pet names, streets you've lived in, songs you've had in the wedding ceremony, seaonal theme (so reindeer names if it's Christmas time), flower names...

Sorry in answer to the OP I am also not too sure, although I do like the school pics idea.

We have decided to have our tables names after the years we were born, the year we met, the years our children were born and the top table will be 2011 for the year of the wedding, we will also have corresponding pics to accompany the numbers.

Awww, that's a lovely one. I'd be temped to put traditional "things" from that county on the table as favours.....(eg - Derbyshire = Bakewell Puddings, Norfolk = Lavender scented soap or other, Yorkshire = Mint humbugs)

Ohh la la - Love it.

like the others said, nothing wrong with it, but personally I think there should be a clear link. Thats what we struggled with. We originally thought films, but has nothing to do with anything else (also only even been to Devon together). So we are linking the tables to inivtes and having numbers carved out of wood. I love the idea of making it funa and interactive though.

    Love that idea.

Different trees would have been a nice one too.

We had similar to the picture one, but we used old wedding photos of family members (parents, grand parents etc) and we had them printed on card with a table number. They provide a good talking point and also have a nice family connection to the wedding

Oooooohhhhhh - I like that. ALthough it would probably only me my OH and my dad who WOOD be (sorry) sad enough to notice the difference. Was also thinking of carving 'thank you' into a nearby tree a week or so before, then on the day having our picture taken next to it to us on thank you cards.

An idea just popped into my head - ive not thought it through properly yet but thought id share

Why not letters on the table A, P, F etc and tell people it is an anagram of something that is dear to you and whoever guesses it right gets a box of chocs? - there may be flaws in this idea but like i said it came to me in a flash...I may do this

I think go for it if it means something to you - like others said, and the table names don't need to be anything recognizable in my opinion - might spark a conversation.

Hmm, I also think there needs to be an obvious link.

I personally just like numbers but I think song names would be quite cool.

Is there any particular theme to your wedding that perhaps will help us think of more ideas for you?
