Stuuuupid question re towels/tea towels

Flump, 13 September, 2008 at 08:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 22

Is it minging to wash them together? I have it in my head that it is, but I'm not sure. Although I don't know why it's bugging me seeing as I've just cleaned the sink and the loo with the same sponge - Anthea would be horrified ??

I'm a minger too then. My towels and tea towels are now out on the line. I've bloody been waiting 3 weeks for towel wash weather!

I actually often forget the tea towel so sometimes stick it in with the main wash instead. That's possibly more minging!

I've always just stuck mine in with everything else! When I think about how mucky the our clothes get with working in the basement, children throwing stuff around etc the tea towels are probably cleaner ?

It has never occurred to me not to tbh - after all, the theory is that they come out of the wash clean!?

I always wash my tea towels and towels in "normal" washes - after all, they're getting cleaned aren't they?

I am the only person I know who washes tea towels separately. I have bought enough virtually to fill a machine by themselves. I blame my mother for this. She has always washed them separately on a hotter wash than other things could stand. In the name of environmental friendliness, I should probably desist this practice but I feel my mother would be sorely disappointed in me. ?

I'm slightly more concerned by the whole sink/toilet sponge thing, tbh. Please tell me it was the toilet after the sink and that you have either severely bleached said sponge or chucked it? ?

ETA: It wasn't the kitchen sink, was it? Cullage may result depending on the answer so ponder carefully... ?

Phew, least I'm not the only one who chucks them in with everything else!

I remember a friend of mine saying "she washes her knickers in with her tea towels, the dirty cow". And I remember thinking why on earth not, you aren't drying the plates with your dirty kecks are you?

She was a lady with gypsy family roots though. The traveller community have some fairly draconian traditions with regard to women and hygiene and modesty.

As far as I'm concerned you're putting it in hot soapy water to clean it. If it comes out not clean you put it back in. And if it looks clean, and smells clean, it is clean.

Show me a scientific basis to change this practice and I'll do so ?

Towels and tea-towels go in together. the only reason they don't go in with clothes or bedding is that i put conditioner in with those, and not with towels/tea-towels.

I used to pop the odd cloth nappy in with my normal wash when I didn't have enough for a full. It did bother me, for about a minute ?

IMHO once they are washed, they are washed. Its the same issue with Towels (who remembers that thread? ?)

I'm such a skanky biatch, I wash the tea towels, face cloths, kitchen cloths and towels together or um, in whatever other wash is going on. It wouldn't occur to me to do differently!

When we were using cloth nappies, I washed them with his clothes. The way theloads built up, it just made sense....

I wash towels and tea towels together.. I don't wash towels with clothes though, except for swim towels and swim suits - I deem that to be okay (god knows why!). I only wash the towels separately because sometimes the fluff comes off on the clothes..

I'm not certain at all about the hygiene of cleaning anything else with the same sponge or cloth used to clean the loo though ?

I used a washable dishcloth to clean the basin and bath, and then to clean the loo. It then goes in the next washing load on. 1950s style dishcloths are the way forward ?

Everything in together. I go through so many tea towels / washable dishcloths clearing up various child related messes that I have taken to lobbing them in the machine on the off chance that the next load that goes in won't be whites ?. I don't care as it all gets clean in the end.
