Suffolk Barn Search

JoJoB1982, 8 September, 2012 at 17:42 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hello all - first post on here (got engaged on Tuesday) so very excited!
I'm searching for a barn in Suffolk - have seen Bruisyard Hall (looks amazing but £££!) also Dove Barn and going to see Smeetham Barn.
Just wondering if anyone has more good suggestions!
Thanks in advance! x

We looked at Haughley Park Barn. I've also heard of the Garden Barn (Little Bradley) and Elms Barn.

We were going to use a barn, but went for Otley Hall instead (Its a small hall/private house with ceremony in the house, and then the reception we're having in their 'Gosnold Suite' which is kinda like a barn). Seems more cosy than Haughley which we looked at (which is gorgeous and beautiful - but massive).

Oh and congrats by the way! If you need any help with anything else, just shout as we've researched loads in the Suffolk area (photographers, bridal shops, suit hire, makeup artists...)

Hi Chedi - thanks for your advice and congratulations!

Love the look of Haughley but their next free date is November 2013 :-( also looked at Garden but apparently only seats 80 for dinner - do you know if that's correct? Will definitely check out Elms Barn - your venue sounds lovely so might take a look at that too!

Thanks for the offer of tips - really sweet of you!

There's High Lodge, I'm not sure if it's really a barn but looks like something similar from the photos.

We had our reception at Thorpeness Country club which was lovely.

There's also Leiston Abbey which is nice.

    Congratulations on your egagement!!
Not sure where abouts in Suffolk you are, but a friend of mine was married at the Barrandov Opera House in Needham Market and it was beautiful. The website isn't great, I think you have to see it in person to really appreciate it. It's a beautiful place, the outdoors and indoors are both stunning.

We're close to Wattisham so Needham would be perfect - thanks for everyone's tips... So many more places out there than I'd thought x

Have a look at Manor Farm Barn at Henley. Its a barn done just like a marquee inside with a lovely courtyard outside.

Everyone we have spoken to who have been to a wedding there says it is lovely, we were certainly sold on it - the owners Andy and Katie and their team are lovely as well (always a bonus) and they have very posh loos lol

Try Preston Priory Barn Nr Lavenham - Its on a working farm and has been renovated without being "done" amazing space with a stage at one end for your top table / band / disco and they do special deals for the start of the wedding season for the first 6 booked - Cheaper at about £2600 than most barn venues and the lady who owns it is lovely.

The web site isnt very good and you really do have to view it to appreciate it.

I couldn't think of the name of this one - a colleague got married there last year & it's gorgeous. I think they only do a few weddings each year though.

Also, bit of a trek and might be too big but Wantisden Valley is nice - over Woodbridge way somewhere

Yes they only do weddings May to September i think - Its maximun capacity is 160 but about 120 is a perfect number in there i think.

    Congrats on your engagement!

We have booked Haughley Park Barn. We also looked at Smeetham Hall which is really nice, Dove Barn but I found that quite small, Crabbs Barn but that may be a bit too far for you. Moreves barn also looks very nice. Ickworth House isnt a barn but has a barn feel to it inside with brick walls and wooden beams etc. May be worth a look?
