aecy, 1 December, 2010 at 13:02 Posted on Planning 0 22

Another post thats been done to death, but I'm confined to the sofa with the laptop (bloody chest infection and asthma) so I need something to keep me occupied!

So ladies what songs are you having, had, would love to have? or just songs you really love x

    Hello!

We are having Foo Fighters Everlong for our first dance song. The acoustic version. Although OH wants to "mix" the acoustic version with the normal version so it picks up at the end, when the guitar kicks in.

Either that or we'll have the acoustic version for our first dance song then play the "normal" much livlier/heavier version later on in the night and see who notices?

I love this song, get goosebumps every time I hear it, can't wait to be dancing with my hubby to it!!

Amythest, don't know if you've heard the original version of Songbird by Fleetwood Mac/Christine McVie. IMHO it's a million times better.

Either way I LOVE this song, perfect first dance. "I love you I love you I love you like never before....."

    [:'(] Sniff!

Another vote for the Fleetwood Mac version of Songbird - it's glorious.

    We're having:

My entrance - Elbow, One Day Like This (instrumental)

Register signing - Guillemots, Made Up Love Song #43; Richard Hawley, Serious; Stone Roses, Ten Storey Love Song; Super Furry Animals, Fire in my heart

Exit - Queen, You're my best friend

First dance - Huey Lewis, The Power of Love ?

My OH and I haven't been able to agree on a first dance song yet. We still have ages to go though so hopefully we'll agree on something....the idea's that have been flying about are:

Michael Buble everything (my choice, but H2B refuses point blank which is fair enough)

we both love Metallica - Nothing Else Matters (but my brother and his wife had it at their wedding, so don't know if it would be a bit off to use it too??)

Lone star amazed(again best friend used it as his first dance, so can't do that one)

my OH loves bon jovi etc, and were thinking of "bed of roses" as we're having a roses theme to the wedding (OH sent my a dozen red roses every month when we first met) so it has meaning, but the words are about wanting someone who isn't there??? so not sure if its entirely appropriate?

We decided to compile a full playlist.

Our first dance was to Marvin Gaye - How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You), choreographed by 1st Dance North East.

We then kicked into some classic motown for the first hour or so. After that, wewere supposed to go into 70s disco - Jackson 5, Chic etc, except the DJ took it upon hisself to mix some cheesy crap in now and again, and then OHs workmates started requested stuff like (the worst point in my day) the Grease megamix, to which two drunk guests did a full on dance to. Now I'm not one for spoiling people's fun but my one regret of the day is that I didn't tell the DJ not to accept requests, and that I didn't go up to him and tell him to stick to the bloody playlist!!

Anyway, the last few songs were ones I'd chosen for my hubbie, his favourites:

One More Time - Daft Punk

Mr Brightside - The Killers - Jacques Lu Cont remix

    Unfinished Sympathy - Massive Attack

I think it's about JBJ cheating on his wife while on the road.

I'm walking down the aisle to the begining instrumental part of November Rain by Guns N' Roses (will stop just before Axl Rose sings)

We're having this played when we sign the register :

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COS6hfXsmjM

Along with Somewhere Over The Rainbow - the Israel Kamakawiwo'ole version and Grow Old With You by Adam Sandler.

No idea for when we walk out!

We're having this for our first dance:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DnwnW_d81U

And New York New York by Frank Sinatra as our last song.

I`m a huge Bon Jovi fan so we are having 'Thank you for loving me' as our first dance.

But other songs we liked are:

    Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars

Eric Clapton - You look wonderful tonight

    Lonestar - Amazed

Oooh, we are having One Day Like This for the register signing and was trying to match a similar band for a second song (if necessary - ODLT is 10 mins long!) and the Guillemots might just fit that....

Ah, what good taste we all have ?

I adore the Guillemots song - I knew I wanted that in our wedding a long time before we got engaged. The words are perfect for us.

ODLT is ten minutes long? Wowzers ?

Lol, I exaggerate, 6:33 mins. Was thinking I could find a nice atmospheric Arcade Fire song to run into it....

PS - We're having Greenday, Time of Your Life as our last song. We would have had it as our first dance but it doesn't really "fit" so it's our last one :-)

    ?

Near enough! I've just checked and the instrumental is over eight minutes if you can't think of anything else to use ?

I love Arcade Fire! Not sure what I'd choose though... my favourite is Rebellion and I'm not sure that's appropriate!

Ooh yes! Was just thinking Neon Bible would more in keeping tempo-wise, but I bet you wouldn't be allowed it in a civil ceremony!
