Suggestions for my $0th Birthday playlist please...

muffins, 20 May, 2009 at 11:53 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

I am having a 40th birthday soon and the DJ has asked for a playlist of the music i like.

I would like 70's 80's and 90's stuff mainly but some recent stuff if I can hear the lyrics on it?

In my youth (? I mixed my friendship groups and that had quite different music tastes, so punk, goth, rock, pop was all featured in my music collection!!

So any suggestions would be welcome!

so far i have (spacific songs and groups )

Come up and see me - Steve Harley cockney reble

Echo Beach -Martha and the Muffins

gone daddy gone- Violent Femes

soft cell stuff

Hazel O'connor

Annie Lennox/tourists and eyrithmic

Waterboys

Abba

Robbie williams

Bon Jovi

Adele

siouxsie and the banshees

Adam Ant

Snow Patrol

Duran Duran

Meat loaf...........................

No real theme? I tend to like music that you can sing a long to and are telling a story I suppose!!

Thanks xx

I shall be 40 soon (11 weeks today!) I can't wait. Anyway I'm not having a party as such but probably have a bbq at my parents so I've been thinking of music to play. Off the top of my head I would probably go for some erasure and pet shop boys as well as a few from your list. I will probably have a lot of 80's music playing and pretend I'm 21 again?

This is from a DJs point of view.

We ask for playlists to give us an idea of your musical taste. The list you've put up is sufficient. I usually ask for no more than 15 'must play' songs, then with taking requests on the evening from your guests and using my own expertise to guage what people are dancing to.....you'll get a good mix of music suited to you and your guests.

If you put forward too many songs you prevent the DJ from using their own skills of knowing what to play next, what will keep people dancing, grouping sets such that the music 'flows' and doesn't clear the floor.

    Hope that helps

Here's another thought....what you like listening to at home is not always the best music to get people up and dancing!

If I have a playlist with some tunes that I know will clear the dance floor I either play them early evening before the dance floor fills or use them during buffet time.
