Suggestions wanted!

Hi all,

The last time I was here, we were going to take our time and plan a nice vintagey shabby chique wedding in our home town in 2015. However, circumstances never being as kind as they should be my fiancé's mothers bowel cancer took a long and very difficult turn for the worst, leaving us with very little spare time to even think about anything positive. Instead of our wedding, we were organising her funeral.

Afterward we decided that we wanted to end the year on a positive note after it had been such a negative time, so we decided to book our wedding aborad (Hawaii) on 3rd December 2014 with just his Dad and my parents as guests. We've got the dress in the process of being made and the rings are on order, ceremony all booked and planned in (above heaven's gate weddings) etc, but now we have to organise (at lightening speed) a reception for Jan 2015!

I have no idea what I'm doing! We are planning on a friday evening dinner for friends and family, Saturday lunchtime photos and then a Saturday evening reception. We have a venue for 300, with a buffet (no sit down dinner), a band and a DJ. We want to:

Have a nice helpful wedding website, which adds up RSVPs etc

Decorate the venue in a Hawaiian theme (and ideas how to do this in January? Venue has both an inside and outside space with patio heaters)

Buy a job lot of inexpensive plastic leis for everyone attending (any ideas on cheap suppliers?)

Still keep a vintagey feel to the whole thing

Have interactive touches to the reception- any ideas where people can upload photos afterward? Good photo props to make at home? I have an extra ten days off at xmas with my BMs to do this.

Any and all ideas gratefully recieved!

I'm no good with the venue decorating ideas as I don't have a creative bone in my body! But for the wedding website, I would recommend

    gettingmarried.co.uk

We have set up our website with them, just using their free package, not paying for the upgrade, and it does exactly what we need. There are facilities for RSVPs, interactive questions - eg we have asked our guests to tell us what song would get them up dancing during the DJ set between the band playing, and there is a page for photos to be uploaded by your guests.

I'm not techie, but found it really easy to set up the site and once I got going, it was a lot of fun!

but.. like you, to put a positive spin, i'll try and help Smiley smile

Have a nice helpful wedding website, which adds up RSVPs etc - try http://www.gettingmarried.co.uk - although you don't put a total of invites on it and then it tells you how many are left, just how many have rsvp'ed

Have interactive touches to the reception- any ideas where people can upload photos afterward? Good photo props to make at home? I have an extra ten days off at xmas with my BMs to do this. - try https://www.wedpics.com and put a link on your website

sorry i can't help anymore. For the bits and bobs for the Hawaiian theme id probably check ebay out maybe?

Hmmm, bit tired so haven't really engaged my brain yet but I'm not sure you will be able to mix Hawaiian with vintage theme.

Im just thinking you might end up with a bodge.

I would go for one or the other personally.

Ive been to a Hawaiian party and that was everyone in shorts, tea shirts , Hawaiian skirts plastic palm trees, fruit punches, cocktails etc and not sure how you would mix that in with pretty china cups, rosee petals and everything else that goes with it.

Your holiday in Hawaii sounds just the ticket and I'm so sorry to hear of your sad loss . My lovely cousin is fighting bowel cancer too.

    Sorry for your sad news.

At least there aren't too many weddings in January so you may still be able to get the better suppliers.

For decorations try Ebay or Discount shops like Poundland or similar?

Thanks all, will check out gettingmarried.co.uk it sounds really good! Photo uploader too.

I think I posted too early and didn't enage my brain, doh! I mean "vintage hawiian" as in Elvis and Ukleles (was thinking of having "Blue Hawaii" streaming onto the white back wall of the venue with the sound off and some old skool surf boards as decor). I agree, china teacups and hawaiian shirts sounds awful!

Thank you for all the kind words- my FMIL was a lovely woman and it was heart breaking, but in her own words "Life goes on and sadness is band for your health". Lots of hugs to anyone else in our position- it is awfully hard on everybody and there are no words xxxx
