Suit Hire Help!

AVH1403, 22 March, 2013 at 21:31 Posted on Planning 0 4

I suspect this might be a bit of a long shot but I am seriously stuck on suits and any advice would be much appreciated!

We live in Gloucestershire, but all of the groom's party (except my dad and groom!) live in Essex and London. Being completely uneducated with the whole suit hire thing I set up a weekend where all involved could come and stay in Gloucestershire for the weekend and we went to the shop where I got my dress, a small independent place. Unbelievably they had only one colour and one style of suit (full tails) which didn't suit any of the party.

Realistically I can't now get them all to come down again as I know it cost them all a lot in travel and time, so I've decided I need to use a chain so me and fiance can go and pick out the suit, then get them all to try it close to home and be measured. Slaters was my first choice but amazingly they have no stores in Essex or London. Debenhams were second choice, but they don't seem to do a 'groom goes free' style offer which we really need cost-wise (unless I've missed something here?). Austin Reed were third choice but again they have no stores in Essex and the two men in Essex won't be able to travel to the next nearest store in London easily as its still a good couple of hours away.

Can anyone suggest anywhere else that I haven't thought of? I don't really want to do online hire or anything like that as they're all such different shapes and sizes that I want them to be able to try the suit before we hire and to have the chance to pick the suit up a few days before the wedding to try it again and swap sizes if needed.

Sorry for the essay!! Hopefully I'm blindly missing somewhere obvious...

My fiance is going to Moss Bros. We have the same issue with the guys being in different places! One even in Australia till mid April! He's had his measurements taken in a suit place in Sydney and Moss Bros are going off their measurements for ordering suit!

They've got stores in Essex and sure they must have in Glouces and London. They can go to their nearest and get suited up there.

Thank you, not sure how I missed them!! How did you find them when sorting the suits? They seem to have really poor reviews which makes me a little nervous, will definitely go into the local store and see what they're like though

We had a hard time with the Colchester Moss Bros - the 4 guys wanted to try 3/4 suits on before deciding and Moss Bros Colchester told us "we don't do that because it takes us too long"... literally what they said to us on the phone! We contacted the Chelmsford branch and they've been great and so helpful and not at all like Colchester.

Hi. We have a similar issue as my dad lives in Cardiff whilst we are in South Yorkshire. We originally thought about buying suits from matalan ( they are good quality and great value- my 17yo will get his from there) as dad has a store local to him. However they have discontinued a couple of the items we liked so looked at Moss Bros- reasonable hire price but very high bond costs so ruled out. Buttons do a decent range, though not as extensive as moss, and again their packages are good. HOWEVER we are now biting the bullet and getting them from our local bridal shop where me and my fg got our dresses. 4 day hire period, 5min drive and over the road from church so handy if there are any last minute wardrobe malfunctions lol! 85 full tails hire per suit, no upfront bond and the guys get to keep their shirts and cufflinks! As for dad, they will work off his measurements and he will be able to go in and see them once he is over this way the eve or morning of the wedding (3pm).

So yes, look at moss as they have a fab range but Burton seems more affordable- and they have an online suit building thingy where the grooms dress changes according to each item you click on. Fun if nothing else :0) xx

We used Greenwoods. The men got measured in about 4 different branches and each picked up their own suits. We then took them all back to one branch.

    No complaints.
