Suits? arghhhh

gemmaz1, 4 August, 2014 at 10:53 Posted on Planning 0 11

I had no idea just deciding who wears matching suits would cause me so much stress. Obviously as every suit is around £100 to hire we are trying to not have too many. I think we have decided on the groom, best man, 2 page boys and my dad who will be giving me away. This means FOG will just be wearing his own suit as well as both of our step dads. I think it would be nice to have them all in suits and my mum thinks they should be but that is an extra 300 pound. Then my mum says my brothers should be in the same suit too as my sisters are bridesmaids and my littlest brother is page boy which leaves 2 brothers in normal suits. I really don't know what to do. The thing is my mum would probably pay for my step dad and brothers but then we would have to get OH's dad and step dad so they aren't the odd ones out.

It can get so costly and confusing when you have big families

We limited it to the groom, 2 best men, page boy and 2 dads. Anyone else had to either wear their own or if wanted suit to match had to pay. You can spend so much trying to please everyone so you need to put your foot down somewhere :-) x

We are getting suits for groom, best men and FOB only. Other men in the wedding party will all have matching ties, pocket squares and button holes but will be wearing their own suit. That way they kind of look co-ordinated with out us having to hire a load more suits!

We've limited it to groom and best man! All the others are just wearing black or dark grey suits, either ones they already own or what they choose to buy themselves. It can get silly!!

We're not having matching suits. OH wants to get a suit made for himself. One best man wants to wear his kilt and other best man wants to wear his own suit... It can get silly if you have to get suits for everyone. I guess because we're having a fairly relaxed wedding we've not had a problem. If we were having a fancier day I would probably want more of them matching with ties to match bridesmaids etc but for us the casual look works better !

You could have brothers and step dads in their own suits but get them buttonholes?

We've kept it to groom, 2 best men and FOG as there is no FOB and i wanted him to have a bit more of an "official" look as he is like a dad to me already. OH wanted his bro and bil but when i pointed out we'd have to have my 2 bil's as well he back tracked. MIL2B isn't wonderfully happy but like you said at £100 a pop an extra 400 to keep her happy just isn't happening.

I say keep it to the ones you are happy with, it's your day! - and like has already been said, maybe matching ties or buttonholes?

This really hits a button with me simply because I've had my mum telling me similar things. 'A wedding should be this' 'You should do that'. I think its easy to get caught up in the almost box ticking aspect of what a wedding SHOULD be, and forget that its our day to mold and shape as we like. I know you want to keep everyone happy, but as you say there is a price limit to an already expensive day and it just can't be helped. My advice would be to keep it how YOU want it, and either try and find a cheaper compromise as already suggested, or just tell them to lump it

^^ This. We have matching suits for groom, best man and my dad, my brother (our usher) has a matching shirt and tie but not suit, they will have buttonholes, and so will groom's dad and my granddad. Can get way too crazy otherwise

I have sorted suits for the groom, best man, 2 ushers, 2 pageboys & my dad.

My OH step father is going to wear his own suit but we have given him the colour of the ties so he can find something similar. We also have a button hole for him.

We bought a suit for my H and then the best man, ushers and FOB we hired matching suits for. That was it.

I think we bought his dad a buttonhole too.

My sisters were all bridesmaids but my brothers weren't ushers and we didn't even buy them button holes, didn't really see the point TBH
