Sunday Wedding and Leaving Early?

BigYellowTaxi, 26 March, 2019 at 12:07 Posted on Planning 0 3

So 9 months ago we booked our wedding for a Sunday in April 2020, and now i'm starting to worry people will leave early.

We chose a Sunday because we thought the majority of our friends then wont need to take a day off like they would for a Friday, and it was honestly the only option we could really afford. I figured if people wanted to drink loads then they can take the Monday off but then they're no worse off than if it had been a Friday.

Its about a 15 minute drive from our home town, which has hotels and a train station, but having looked into travel costs and hotels it looks like a taxi back will cost about £15 and a hotel around £60, is this too much? I'm worried people will not want to pay out so will just either drive and not drink (not that it matters but they're then unlikely to stay to the end) or they'll just leave early so its cheaper Taxi fare or so they can get a taxi to the nearest station.

most of our friends live a 40 min drive or train ride away, but we [picked the venue as we loved it and its easier for our elderly relatives.

I know i'm probably over thinking it, but do you think people are now less likely to make an effort to stay late or over night?

I suspect the vast majority of people will get taxis/hotel. I don’t begrudge anyone if I take a day holiday to attend a wedding.

I agree with expensive yellow confetti.

i don’t think those prices are unreasonable. I think uoill probably end up with people staying over and just getting up early if they’re going to go into work. I don’t think many people would hold up for it, and would just suffer the consequences! I would just book the Monday off and enjoy a lovely long weekend!

Does it really matter if people leave early or don’t stay right to the end? Weddings can be a long day for lots of guests and some people never stay to the end of a wedding. I know I don’t. My partner and I are really quiet, socially awkward people (him more so than me) and he hates leaving the house let alone going to a wedding full of people. Don’t hold it against anyone if they do leave early. Weddings aren’t everyone’s idea of a good day/night out. As long as they’re there for the most important part through the day.

It's usual for people not to stay to the end, even with saturday weddings. You may find more people leave by 10pm but it shouldn't be a big problem.

A bad dj causes a higher rate of people exiting the wedding!
