Surprise for H2B - Help needed

Tracy2012, 9 March, 2012 at 18:14 Posted on Planning 0 13

For our wedding I've got a new dress, new shoes, and new underwear. My OH will be hiring a suit, and wearing some black shoes that he already owns. He made a comment about not buying a suit which got me thinking.

I've come up with the idea of buying him some designer shoes to wear for our wedding. He'll be able to wear them again when he wears suits for meetings (he goes to work in jeans and t-shirt normally!).

However, I have no idea when it comes to designers, let alone mens ones so i'm hoping that someone here can help with names of designers and suggestions of where to get the shoes from. I figured that shoes will work better than surprising him by buying a suit as I can't measure him without him knowing and I know what size shoe he wears!

My other half is buying shoes by Jeffrey West, they are beautiful well made shoes but not cheap either - £250.00 a pair. One of our friends regularly wears them and says they are amazing!

Church shoes are supposed to be good. H2b was going to get some until we realised it probably wasn't worth it since he'll be in sandals on the beach and spending £2-300 for shoes for an evening reception is a little excessive!

My OH loves Paul Smith shoes and when allowed Prada shoes but they are pricey.

My OH likes Paul Smith and Oliver Sweeney shoes. They look good and he likes that they are comfy. He gets a lot of wear out of them and they still look good as new.

Get him some new pants too! You know how we love putting on a new pair a pretty knickers, well I'm sure men must get some sort of similar feeling (maybe...).

I have got mine these for his goodie box:

They match his cravat too Smiley winking

    Great idea!

Depends on your budget and your OH tastes at the top end Gucci, Dolce Gabbana, Versace, Armani, Hugo Boss, Lanvin as well as the ones already mentioned.

Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin also do a men's collection.

www.yoox.com is great online shop for discounted designer clothes/shoes.

You can also try your luck at TK Max if your local store stocks what they call 'gold label' brands (not all stores do but you can check on their website if your local does) you can get the top designers at discounted prices.

Also Kurt Keiger is also worth a mention slightly more affordable then the top designers https://www.kurtgeiger.com:443/

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I know nothing about mens shoes so i've narrowed it down to two!

    Number 1

    Number 2

I'm not sure whether to go with more shiny or not. Which do people think look better?

Number 2! They are more classicly timeless. And timeless is what you want from an investment item of clothing!

You said earlier that your H2B doesnt very often wear formal shoes, only when the occasion arises. If it were me, I would be tempted to go with the matt, non-shiney shoe. If he's anything like my OH, he'd be more likely to wear non-shiney shoes again

Number 1 are the more dressier of the two you've picked out, whereas number 2 could easily be worn to work interviews etc. Number 2 are definitely more of an investment, as Ducky says.

Thanks for your suggestions and help. Am about to place an order for Number 2. Just hope he likes them when they arrive!
