Sweet Buffets

nic&al, 27 May, 2010 at 15:46 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hi Ladies,

Imagine my excitement when I got home today to find my vases and bowls had arrived for our sweet buffet. God only knows how I will react when they have sweets in.

And there lies the purpose of this post. Because the fun bit strarts now, finding the sweeties.

Just wondering if anyone else was having a sweet buffet and what yummy sweets they will be indulging in.

I am going to be having bowls and vases with things like jellybeans and smarties in, sweets that are visually pleasing so they are also like decorations at the same time!

Hey, like the idea of the jelly beans, they will look lush! We were going for sort of retro old sweets from 'proper' sweet shops like sherbet lemons, and cola cubes though they will get sticky!

We're going to costco (friend has a card) next week to check out what's available and fill one of our vintage jars to work out how much we'll need altogether!

Sarah333 - getting my bags (pink and white stripey) and I've seen white ones too from ebay - very cheap! What website are you using for actual sweets if you don't mind sharing?

    Hi

did you buy yur vintage jars? shall search ebay for paper bags but my colours are purple and gold so finding it a bit tricky, the sites below, one is local to me (Norwich) and the other one is equally as good, they offer good discounts for bulk buy, I was thinking about getting a company to sort it out but that is quite expensive!! :-)

we also want retro sweets, I am a haribo freak, thought I would grow out of penny sweets but am approaching 30 dont think I ever will grow out of them so to have it as a part of our wedding is quite fun I think

As far as I know it's fine to put websites on ? Thanks so much - the pink sweet shop seems really reasonable - I love their penny sweets! Going to see what Costco have put have heard their choice isn't huge so may well come back to these - have you used them yet?

Yeah bought our jars off my friend who had used them for her wedding last year - we got 10 for £130 as off ebay etc the ones I wanted were around £250 with postage! So were quite lucky, will try and sell them after though as it's still a lot of cash! i think others have had luck with Ikea but when I went I could only find small glass jars.

I'd like to see jars of random sweets like the foamy teeth, shrimps, mushrooms, eggs etc. Like proper kids sweets that you're not supposed to eat once you're an adult (but any excuse).

Add to that packets of popping candy!

Love these candy cubes, I'd be tempted to just buy a different one for each table

    Hi

Sorry not been on. Had a nightmare couple of weeks. We got our vases from a florist suppliers on the internet if you shop around you can get some good deals. We also got a couple off Ebay. Again as others have said were are getting candy bags and scoops from Ebay. I found to hire was nearly as expensive as buying.

We want really bright sweets, jelly beans, jelly babies, m&m etc. Our colour scheme is gold and ivory so thought thia would brighten things up. xx

Im just in the process of getting all of the things for mine too - im getting my sweets from macro where you get 600 1p sweets for £2.60 although there are some good web sites if you google retro sweets - im still looking for jars - struggling online as the postage is so much on them so finding that the charity shops and boot sales are great - also amazing what your friends and family have stashed away and are willing to let you borrow.

I cant waite to have them was thinking of getting see through plastic bags and making little stickers with our wedding date on (i saw a great example in fenwicks for £6 and thought i can do cheaper!) Any suggestions where i could get the bags and stickers from?

    thanks Smiley smile
