Sweetie Bars

SadieButterfly, 26 February, 2012 at 18:02 Posted on Planning 0 24

Is anyone having or doing their own sweetie bars at their wedding? Would love to see your ideas/plans. We're thinking of doing this instead of favours.

We're planning on having one (or merging it into a dessert bar) but I've got no specific plans or pics as yet, sorry.

We did one - with all our favourite sweeties in, and used tags to pull it all together too.

However, I was thinking about this today and if i'd have known about them, i'd have a candy tree too (Just purchased one for hubbys easter pressie - made of Mars eggs):

I'm not sure to be honest.. Lots though. To put it into real size the base is bigger than a mug i'd use for tea - so there really must be a lot!

I just wish I'd have known about them pre-wedding!

Just out of interest how much did it cost to make you marshmallow tree? We are having a sweetie bar and I'm thinking I'm making a sweetie tree too.

We are having a sweetie table and I have brought various bowls, vases and things from The Range for ours. It cost me £80 for them all with the mirror plates but I am hoping to sell them after the wedding. I am going to set mine up something like this with all different sweets in and then put some nice decorative bits around them like letters and things.

Just be careful it seems a good idea to diy a sweet table but sweets cost an absolute fortune when your filling jars up sometimes its cheaper to get a company

We are getting our sweets from our local Costco. Have worked out it will cost us less than £50 for everything we need and considering this is for 140 guests and we were quoted £280 from a company we have still saved £150 and will hopefully get some more back when we sell them on ebay afterwards.

We are hiring an old fashioned sweet cart, includes hire of all jars, tongs, sweets, sweet bags - and we get to keep any left over sweets. It cost us £175 inc delivery, set up and collection from venue, but we also hired lots of outside lanterns and candles for the garden areas and a white royal mail post box so she did it all for £250 and threw in free table runners for all of our tables, too. I am sure we could have got it much cheaper if we had done it ourselves, but to be honest I'd rather not have things to set up on the day. I don't mind doing things beforehand at all, but any fussing to be done on the morning of the wedding will just keep me awake the night before
