sweetie table - advice needed!

The current Miss L the future Mrs H, 13 April, 2012 at 15:11 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi, this is one for OMs or anyone having a sweetie table. How many types of sweets are you having and for how many guests? We've got 100 - 120 in the evening and have no idea how many types to put out/how much etc. Help please!

I'm not an OM but I would think about 8 varieties would be a nice selection. We're having kilner jars filled with different sweets as our centrepieces (with personalised sweetie bags so people can help themselves, centrepieces and favours in one go!)

The one thing I am umming and ahhing about is what sort of sweets. I don't want hard boiled sweets because 1) I don't want photo's of my guests cheeks bulging at the sides with a hard boiled sweet! and 2)choking hazard for little people. I'm not too keen on unwrapped chocolate 1)depending on the weather, it might melt 2) little people will end up with chocolate covered hands/faces....so that sort of leaves me with soft fruity sweets and fudge.

We're having 4 different sized jars per table but each table will have the same selection.

I think we'll have a lot left over so I'm planning on telling people at breakfast the following day that they can help themselves...I am going to have a lot of kilner jars to get rid of!!!

    Hiya

I am not an OM, but we are having a sweetie buffet. We are having about 100 guests in the evening and we have:

Flying Saucer, Pear Drops, Rhubarb & Custard, Shrimps, Liquorice Allsorts, Toffees, Marshmellows, Lemon Sherbets, Strawberry BonBons, Lollies, Jelly Beans, Dolly Mixtures, Cola Bottles, Strawberries & Cream, Peppermint Candy Canes, Fruit Candy Canes and Homemade Peppermint Creams.

I kept buying them when they were on special offer, not including the peppermint creams we have about 16KG!!!! Its a lot, but my family and OH's family all have a sweet tooth!

Sounds like a good idea. We are just going to have a table at the reception instead of providing dessert (our cake is going to be used during wedding breakfast so don't know how much will be left) I'm thinking of going with things like Haribo starmix (already go some), fizzy cola bottles, jelly babies, wine gums, some form of chocolate (possibly celebrations) and other sweeties, although not decided yet. It is depending on where I can get them cheaply.

I would keep the jars then sell them afterwards (thats's what I'mg going to do). I bet there will be lots of future brides that would be interested in buying them for their sweetie buffet!

We're having a sweetie table too - my mum has been collecting vintage cut glass vase for me and I have about 10 that we'll be filling so far, also got sweet bags and scoops from ebay - I've budgeted £150 for sweets but not sure how much that will get me and I'm not sure how good your price is, although it might be cheaper and more rewarding to do your own?!

We're having about 150 to the evening and so far have about 10 types of sweets. We are keeping them to our colour scheme of pink and brown so are a little limited as to what we can have, but it's worked out well. I think we'll get a few more types too. We've bought ours from Makro when the sweets were on offer, so we'be made huge savings. I'd say if you do it yourself from such places you can save a fortune. £240 sounds a lot to me! We got big tubs of cola bottles, pink pigs, ice creams, fizzy cola bottles etc at 2 for £5 which is a bargain really. If you can get to a Makro and have a card or know someone that does, it's def the way ?

We have spent just under £80, we have got 12 different jars/glass bowls to use (We might need to use some ones from home too) and we have over 16KG of sweets!

How many KGs of sweets is the £240 for? Im guessing that includes the jars and bowls?

I went to costco at the weekend and bought these. The tub is huge and has 5kg of sweets in it. The jars were around £5 each they are coconut mushrooms and strawberry bonbons. I also got got a big tub of haribo jellies and flying saucers and in total it came to £40. I will collect more bits as I go along.

Try the Poundshop for bags, we got a load of love heart, lollies etc which only added up to a few quid. It's not our main favour and just to be dotted round the room but I would say based on that you could allow half a bag for all your guests (which is a fair bit!) for under the £100 mark?

Also, can you go to a local sweetshop and buy in bulk? There's one near me with an online store (I;ve to get prices for my Brother but I know they will sell in bulk) they're really helpful too so if you want the contact details to call I will get them.
