Sweets Table Help! What's your favourite...

Arabella16, 18 April, 2016 at 08:48 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hi everyone!

I am looking for a little bit of help... we have decided to do a DIY sweets table; I have lots of jars, sweets bags and scoops etc but have now got to the fun part of buying the sweets.

We made a trip to Costco and bought all of the big packs of sweets that they did:

-M&Ms

-Skittles

-Liquorice

-Jelly beans

-Red laces

-Flying saucers

-A 'party sweet' selection (inc lollies, refreshers, love hearts etc)

-Haribo (normal mix)

-Haribo (tangfastics)

So my question now is... I am going to order some more from Amazon to give some variety, but was interested to know what people would like to see on a sweets table? I need some inspiration as there is so much choice I dont know what to go for!

My favourite is definitely a good old marshmallow. Whats yours?

Thanks! xx

I love snowies (the white chocolate discs with multicoloured sprinkles on). We're putting some super sour sweets on the table too, just for fun ?

Went to a wedding recently and they had the most amazing turkish delight on the sweetie table. I literally just stood by the table and ate it all night. I love drumsticks too.

There are some great ones on here! Thanks so much everyone, I love your taste :-) and thinking of all of these sweets is taking me back a few (too many!) years - can't wait to buy them all... and eat them! Would it be rude for me to spend the evening of our wedding standing next to the sweets table?! ?

Haha sounds to me like a great way to make sure you see/speak to everyone. Not to mention a great excuse when people say you were by the sweet table all night! ?

    No.

However some of the suggestions on here like marshmallows and flying saucers can spoil if uncovered after some time, so you may need to, I know this will be hard, to have a longevity tasting session, you couldn't possibly serve a soggy flying saucer ?

For me, gummy bears all the way, also partial to a chocolate raisin and dolly mixture. Milk bottles generally keep, black jacks, fruit salads, love hearts.

Ooo thank you for this post - you are where we will be in about 6 months! We've started pricing up in Costco, and I've had a browse on Amazon to see how much other sweets will be - there were some deals up for the personalised Love Hearts, which a little bit of me would love (then the practical part of me just says spend the money elsewhere!!).... you're going to have an EPIC sweet table by the sounds of things!

Can I ask where you got all your jars and stuff from? Also (sorry, I'm being cheeky), how many are you catering for? I know sweet tables are always very popular, and don't want to totally overstock otherwise we'll be on a sugar high for the whole of our honeymoon, but dont want the table to go empty!

I adore Haribo Strawberries! You can get a box of them on amazon for roughly £5.00.
We are having a sweet cart at our wedding too and I've already said we are having two big jars of these sweets! I don't care if no one else likes them...it means I have more to take home and eat after the wedding!hehe

I'll dmit this is the bit I'm most excited about! I managed to get a list from a sweet table supplier before I decided to go DIY so was spoilt for choice!

My "must haves" have been dolly mixture and strawberry bon bons, but narrowing down the rest has been REALLY hard work!

Thank you all for your replies, some of them were making me chuckle to myself on the train to work this morning! And I love all of the different sweets you have come up with, some of them I haven't thought about for years, since the days of taking pennies to the corner shop! That Turkish Delight sounds amazing too!

And thank you for the tip on the flumps too MrsLBtoB, they really are retro sweets, will have to head down there and pick some up for that price!

Jayne E I love your excuse for standing at the table 'to see all of the guests', love it! I wonder if I could get away with that ?

Tidal Wave, that is the best idea! It will be a real struggle, but for the sake of our guests I may have to take on the pain of a taste testing session... this wedding planning really is hard work sometimes ?

Pookie, my jars I bought second hand from another bride (and will be selling them on again after my wedding next month - not sure if you are anywhere near Essex), but I have also seen very reasonably priced jars in the kitchen section of Ikea. We have around 150 people coming to the evening, but I have to say our buying is more on budget than numbers - we will spend what we can and then when its gone its gone. But once I have placed my orders and moved all of the sweets into the jars, I may to a last minute trip to Asda or the sweets stall at the local market if it doesnt look enough (and budget allows!). I can report back after the wedding on what we bought and what we were left with if that helps!

Thanks so much for all of your messages, you've definitely inspired! It looks as though giant strawbs and dolly mixtures are a firm favourite with quite a few votes, along with gummy bears/cola bottles and haribo... and I can't wait to order some jazzies! Theres also a few you have all mentioned that I never would have thought of, so thank you, will give lots of fun and variety!

Thanks so much everyone, and I agree Soraneko, narrow down all of these tasty treats is hard work ?

My friends had a sweet table (as well as a popcorn machine for savoury lovers) and the ones that disappeared quickest were Flying Saucers, Chocolate Mice and Cola Bottles Smiley smile

Obviously, you'd be such a bad bride/hostess to give them sub standard sweets ? Just brace yourself for that horrendous task hehe.
