SWers - some questions

Rod, 18 January, 2012 at 09:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 19

Hi ladies..i know there are a few SW converts here...I am seriously considering joining...however, would you say its easier to join a group and go each week etc...or just do it yourself?

I am reluctant to pay someone to weigh me in...but at the same time, I think i need some help! Feeling pretty down today...been trying to be good and eat well the past couple of weeks and since NYE have lost 6lb but i still need to lose at least a stone...if not 2....???

Theres an offer on for half price membership so if i joined this week or next week it would only be £10...then the weekly fee.

Do you find the group aspect encouraging? I did WW for a while but i felt intimidated by some of the members. The lady who weighed me wasnt very nice and because i only had a small(ish) amount to lose i felt the ladies with more to lose were looking at me as if I shouldnt be there?

I'm no SW expert and I still don't have a clue what it all means. But that's because I'm lazy and haven't read the books, I just ask Claire Numbers ?

But I would day you need to go to the groups to really understand it at first (unless I am just exceptionally dim). And I do think it's more motivating. Especially when your slimming buddy loses 4.5 poundsand put's your measly 1/2 pound to shame! I don't think anyone would look down on you because you are slimmer, there will probably be people there who are at their goal weight and just want to maintain it.

I'm sure our resident SW experts Claire and Flow will be along to give you some proper advice soon.

Cheers HT - i think its the thought of a room full of people thats freaking me out. Its almost like admitting you have a problem you know?

I'm by no means fat, but i am about a stone overweight and ideally would like to be a stone n half lighter!

I couldnt do it as well as i do i fi dindt go to group..i dont necessairly stay ecah week, just go to get weighed, but everyones lovley and encouraging and genuwin;y want you to do well. they dont tell you off if u put on!!

You can fit it in to your lifestyle as its about eating the right things with the right things (in short!) so eating out isnt a problem, theres actually a section in the bacdk of the book that tells you what the best options to go for when going out for dinner and everything!

and the best thing? You get to eat S**T loads fo grub ?

Def need group. I joined July 2010 & lost 2 stone for my wedding July 2011. Group keeps you focused & knits you in more.

I rejoined August 2011 & left in October 2011. Kept swaying between same few pounds so didnt see any point in paying - my own fault, hectic social events & I wanted to enjoy them. I still made healthy SW meals but inbetween times & wkends was my downfall.

Fast forward to my christmas work do when a dress I had wore in October didnt zip up...so gutted. Decided to join again after christmas & Im going back tonight. Texted leader on Monday to tell her so I cant back out. I currently cant wear my work trousers as they are so tight so Im wearing leggings & tunics. I'd say I have on at least a stone - I feel so heavy & lardy - massive belly. Just shows how all those meals out, christmas sweets, drinks add up.

SW really really works & its not the hardest diet to stick to. im away next wkend but im going to stick to eating chinese . noodle dishes, stay away from deserts & limit my alcohol intake. I may put a pound or 2 on but at leaast i'll be back on plan.

    basically yeh !

Red Days are days when you can eat as much lean meat as you like, and i mean as much as you can handle!with a measured amount of carbs

Green days are carb days so can eat as many carbs as you liek, pastas, rice etc and a measured amount of meat

Extra Easy - you can eat what you like but its about how much of each I think? I dont do EE, as in my head, i dont understand how you can eat shed loads of everything and lose weight, i stick to red and green!

I don't go to a group. I just borrowed the books from my sister who went about 4 years ago and do it myself. The good thing about going to a group is the motivation. However, getting into my dress is motivation enough for me! It's only myself I'm letting down if I cheat.

Like you, I'm by no means big, just wanted to shift a few pounds. I was 10 st 11 in August and I'm 10 st 3 now. That's with only really following the plan Mon-Thur as we're away/out so much on weekends. If you want to follow it on nights out, it's pretty simple to do.

Red/Original and Green were the original two choices. We stick with these, as they are the ones in my sister's book! We normally do every other day for a bit of variety. On a red day, you can eat as much lean meat as you want, with limited amounts of carbs. On a green day, it's as much pasta, rice etc as you want, with limited amounts of meat. All fruit and veg is "free" on both days, so you can fill yourself up with those. You also get "Healthy Extras" which are milk, cheese etc and bread, cereal etc. You get controlled amounts of these. Extra Easy is a combination of a Red and Green Day.

I found it helped that my sister had done it before, so if you don't go to a group, there are plenty of us on here who do it, so ask away!

Thanks everyone. I think the motivation is the thing i need. No wedding now, and the holiday is still 5 months away.

I might give it a go.

October, I've joined online for the time being. Just to get my head round EE as well and read up on it all. I've lost 3lbs in 2 weeks but I don't think I've been EE quite as well as I should've been (not eating 1/3 of everything).

I keep thinking about joining a class. Will you do a local one to home? We could go together?

Definitely give it a go October. Everyone's different but I can't lose weight on SW unless I go to group. I rejoined 12 weeks ago and have lost a grand total of half a pound!!!! (went up one week, down the next etc) This was because I wasn't staying to group as I couldn't stand not having my dinner until 8:30pm, so I used to go and weigh-in and then go home.

However, our group has now moved times so I've been staying the past couple of weeks. I lost a pound and a half last week and am going again tonight and hoping to lose.

I was with SW before as well and lost a stone and a half then. BUT I really HAVE to stay to group. I just can't stay motivated otherwise.

I go to SW and follow the EE plan. So far I have lost about 1 1/2 stone and have another stone to lose before I'm at target weight.

EE is at least 1/3 "superfree foods" (which in the main are fruit and veg) and then 2/3rds protein and / or carbs- so the two thirds could be all carbs or all protein or both. The key that makes it work is always making sure that 1/3 is "superfree". It's good because there is no weighing. You get 1 HEA (which is calcium) and 1 HEB (which is fibre). But all this gets explained when you go and you also get a pack that is helpful to refer to.

I know nothing about the red and green days because I don't follow them at all.

I'd say that, for me, the group is a must. I find SW alot more supportive than WW (I have done that before and struggled with the groups).

    HI

I've been doing SW for 4 weeks now, and am loving it.

I would definately reccomend it. I tried to do it myself last year, but didn't manage it, and I know this is working.

I was exactly the same as you (the thinking surely I'm not just paying someone to weigh me in) but it's not just the weighing in, its the support the group gives you, and my consultant is there for me 24/7, if I'm having a bad week I give her a call and she always has time for me :-)
