Table centre help please

kay22mms, 7 June, 2014 at 12:20 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi can anyone help please. We're having large martini glass centrepieces. Each table is a country from our cruise inspired theme. Each floral arrangement will be roughly based around that country's flag colours - not too obvious though. The martini glass reminds us of our pre dinner martini we had each evening. Now here's my dilemma I am really worried about the tall floral arrangement in a large glass bowl toppling over. How can we make it more sturdy. I imagine one knock of the table and the whole glass shattering and injuring guests. Slightly exaggerated probably but I am worried about it. Any ideas for making them more sturdy? Oh the things that keep us awake at night!

Maybe some coloured stones/sand in the bottom of the glass, under the flowers, to keep the weight in the centre? Love the idea by the way!

Friends of ours had giant martini glasses as centre pieces, and the height things wasn't an issue. I think as long as they are places centrally, and not near the edge of a table, they are pretty stable in them selves. If you have round tables, then it is unlikely that people will knock them off the table! The only issue that our friends had, was that they had 'square' tables, but they were made from smaller tables, instead of being one big table. This typically put the join under the centrepiece, and there was a sight worry that any wobbly tables might make them fall!

Just think about the centre of gravity, the lower you can make it, the more secure it will make you feel, so anything that brings the weight to the lower end of the glass will help!

From memory, they are pretty sturdy as they are though! If you have one, put it somewhere like in the middle of the floor, plonk a load of cushions around it (so it doesn't break) and see how far you have to tip it before it actually falls!

Hi! My mum's a florist and has used martini glasses a lot, my cousin had them on 40 tables - they're absolutely fine! She had big floral displays and none fell. If you're using a florist they'll be able to reassure you too!
