Table centrepieces *flash*

Caz73, 31 July, 2011 at 14:36 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hello, thought you might like a 'flash' of our table centre decorations. As you know, we're having an 'autumnal' theme with our wedding, so we decided to use some dried cereals (which we bought from The Hop Shop, rather than Tesco...) in some glass vases from Ikea, on a mirror tile we bought from another Hitcher, with tealight candles in the corners (sorry we didn't have enough candles and holders with us to do all four), with some hunter green scatter crystals (hunter green is our secondary colour). The pine cones will be place name holders. The whole thing will be on a hunter green centre cloth (which we didn't have, sorry), on a white overall tablecloth.

We got dried oats, linseed and wheat, and some lavender to give it a nice scent. Tried all three together and it just looked a mess, so decided to try oats / lavender, linseed / lavender, and wheat / lavender. As we only had a small quantity of wheat they will probably go on the top tables, and 5 of each of the other two on our ten guest tables - not decided yet whether we'll have one row of each or alternate them along the tables. We used some florists wire to hold it all together, but the green ribbon we got to go over it doesn't work so we'll use a thicker ribbon which again we didn't have with us.

What do you think?

Finally, all the assembled centrepieces in a box ready to come home.

The lavender should also make people feel relaxed - but not too relaxed, as just after I started the dogs curled up and went to sleep, after about half an hour my dad dropped off, and twenty minutes later my sister joined them!

Maybe it was just because we were in a small enclosed area the lavender was a bit overpowering, hopefully it won't be a problem in our large room!

We have four different 'scented tealights', that fit within our theme as they are autumnal colours and scents. They'll probably be placed randomly around the tables though, and most likely need replenishing at some point during the day. We may not light them until later in the day though.

Our evening celebrations start at 5.30pm for 6pm with the speeches, and the sun doesn't set according to the charts until about 7.30pm on our wedding day - so it will still be light when we start anyway. I don't think they will last all night anyway so we'll probably have to replace them at about 5.30pm if we lit them earlier in the day (and may need to change them again later in the evening), and as we have 5 more tables for evening guests we need to make sure we don't run out of them.

Obviously we want to maximise the effect, and hope that we can dim the lights in the room for the evening anyway, but it's difficult to guess how to balance effectiveness v conservation of candles (or buy another 50 just in case). The light green ones were unscented ones from Ikea so they're cheap enough - and with the lavender we have a scent of sorts, but don't want to make it too overpowering.

    What do you think?

I think they are nice. If it was me I would probably have the candles the same colour- maybe one table could have red, one green etc etc?

We do have enough (I think - need to find what crate they're in then count them) to do that.

Five of our tables (plus the top table) are named after trees of the New Forest (wedding breakfast) and the other five (evening guests) are named after animals you can find in the New Forest. I don't know whether green for tree and red for animals is a good idea, or again like we are alternating the oats / barley table centrepieces perhaps we could match the colours to the centrepieces all the way through?

So many options... I didn't think it would be this complicated!

I would probably match the candle to the oats etc. So all tables with Barley have red for example?

Like the table names though- wihs we had done that now- weve just gone for 1-7!

I love the idea, just a thought... have you tried them without the vases?

Good idea for the colour matching, we'll see how it works.

We thought about numbers, but then family politics kicked in and we didn't want people getting in a tizzy because such-and-such was on a higher numbered table they must be considered more important, when all we did was mix and match groups together to get maximum use out of the minimum numbers of tables! Names are easier, plus they fit nicely in with the New Forest venue.

Yes, they fell over Smiley smile Although we could trim them so they stand properly, there's a risk that they'd fall over if someone knocked the table, and with candles about we didn't want the risk of burning the hotel down. We might have got away with smaller vases but as we've now bought 20 of them from Ikea (they're quite fragile and we've already broken a few) we don't really want to change the vases for smaller ones. We just thought the square ones were nice with the square mirror, and square table centrecloth - although of course we're having round tables that seat 12.

Those are really pretty and different ?. dont know what flowers you are having but you can include some of those in your bouquet. Ask your florist.
