Table decs help - I'm back to square one!

BoroKate, 10 April, 2010 at 20:36 Posted on Planning 0 26

Why is it that when you think you have something sorted, there's always a problem with it. We found some lovely tealight holders to have as our table decs but I've just checked with the venue and we can't have any open flames? I've looked at LED tealights but that will be another £20.

I originally didn't budget for table decs as our venue would provide us with posies but when I saw them I didn't like them. The tealight holders would have come to less than £30 so I was quite happy to go with them. I'm so gutted I can't have them!

So ladies please give me some ideas that don't cost the earth.

I'll need 10 of whatever it is we're having and the colour scheme is choc, cream & gold (we're having a brown table runner) and I don't like anything too big or fussy.

OR should I just suck it up and deal with the fact I'm gonna have to add even more to the budget?

Do you have a theme that you want to stick to? Just before I suggest anything and you say, no that doesn't fit with my theme lol!

I'm not having a theme, just something that fits with the colour scheme.

Ideally it would be simple and unfussy, however I also have a habit of having my heart set on one thing and then going for the total opposite? Sorry thats no use whatsoever but I haven't got a clue where to start!

A single gerbera or something similar would look nice in those vases, if you can get the colour right! or orchids as someone else said. Not very hot on flowers im afraid!!!

Jane I loved this until I remembered we're only having favours for the day guests but we need the table decs for the evening reception too! Great idea though.

A lot of venues are funny about just having tealights, but are happy as long as they're in holders that cover the flame, a bit like a shot glass iyswim....might be worth checking with them before you right off the tealight idea!

I've already checked with the venue and they said possibly yes for the day but still no for the evening. This is what I wanted but they don't trust my drunken friends not to set fire to anything when they've had a few too many?

That sounds bonkers - even from a safety perspective can it really make a difference what time of day you want to have candles on the table!? I've never known a venue have one rule for the wedding breakfast and another for the evening do. Good luck with it!

Can't you have them for the day and forget to blow them out for the night?

Now this may well be the reason I'm in debt but I'd buy the flameless lights as I love the holder you posted.

The reason they don't want them at night time is probably because during the day people are mainly just sitting at the table and not moving much and also less drunk. At night time everyone is up and dancing, putting drinks down and running to the dance floor, possibly quite drunk so less careful and when there is a party atmosphere naked flames just aren't a wise idea really.

Why not use the LED tealights?

Or you could do something like this that would cost under £10 per table:

I love those square vases especially if you dont want anything too ott

you could buy cream and ivory silk or dried roses/ Peonys (or flowers to match yours) and put them in the vases with a brown table runner and scatter table crystal around them

If you wanted something to go on the top maybe a decortive butterfly

    Hey

We bought some LED tealight candles at the weekend from B&M (if theres one near you ) and we got 4 for 99p in a pack they also do some in a dragonfly or butterfly shape that change colour.

So you could have what you orginally wanted without it costing loads.

    hope this helps

    Gen & Matt xx

    Hey

Same problem at my venue, they agreed on naked/covered flame during the meal but not for the party, which I can understand but it still is annoying. I love the thought of light so much I'm just spending the extra on fake lights.

but I keep browsing this lovely website and search "centrepieces" and you see everyones brilliant ideas! I'm thinking chunky square vases with gel and lights in surrounded by "fake tealights" and maybe petals around too.

Not great pics im doing these, (with rose petals not ones picked from a tulip that happend to be in my garden!lol)

maybe you could just do one with petals round it? or 2 little if you want to keep costs down? these are costing me around £12 per table with the proper petals?
