irishbride2012, 10 August, 2012 at 12:14 Posted on Planning 0 24

Hi All,

At the stage where we're starting to think about the table plan & with that names for the tables. We'd like something different but struggling to think of ideas.

Can anyone offer any ideas please?

We are having couples from our favourite films...

The tables with have signs with the couples names on one side and a picture of the film poster on the other.

Don't name them for the sake of it, try and think of something you love and expand on that.

We love monkeys, always give each other monkey cards etc. So we had types of monkey (Baboon, chimpanzee, orangutan, gorillas etc, was really fun!)

So what are you and OH into?

It doesn't matter if people don't get it, the day is about you two and what makes you tick.

In any case you can always have a picture or small explanation about each chosen name. Some of our monkeys were not obvious monkeys, for example, Barbary Apes, but as soon as you see the picture you realise they are 'Gibraltar monkeys'

We're having sweets. Mainly we both love sweets but also my H2B is known as the sweet tooth and we've used sweets in nicknames etc. Sweets fit with us.

It's not about other people understanding, it's about what you want, and if you're really worried about it you can always put a little note on the centre of the table explaining it

I think it's only worth doing if it's something personal to you.

Our ideas were cities we've been together, landmarks we've visited with a picture, Lakes in the Lake District (where the wedding is), places we've been in Italy (where we got engaged), or favourite bands / songs with a playlist playing in the background while we eat, or even given out as a favour... to name a few. Think we're going for the landmarks one

I wouldn't worry about people not understanding at all! We're having names of the roads in the development we've just bought our house in, which are all named after old submarines, which has double meaning because I used to be in the navy! But no one other than maybe our parents will get it at all! x

This simply isn't possible for us. My H2B listens to death metal and likes bands like Cannibal Corpse and Dying Feotus....not really any use for wedding table names ha ha

He keeps asking if he can play some of his music at the wedding and, well it's his wedding too....just a bit nervous as to the guests! It's not my kinda music, in fact he plays it in the car so I know what it sounds like. We're in discussions :oS

We are having sweets too - my OH loves sweets and actually proposed with a haribo ring!! i think if you are going to name tables it has to be sometihng that means something to you, if you can't think or agree on anything there is nothing wrong with 1, 2, 3 etc

Irish bride, what is your theme or colour scheme? That would help us with suggestions.

We are thinking names of places we like to visit (in our case mostly in Northumberland where we are )i.e. Alnwick castle and then trying to link the table names to the favours for that table. The favour bit of the plan we are struggeling with tho.

Ours is completely unconnected to theme as vintage / shabby chic etc. We are having pics of us in different fancy dress outfits to go with the fancy dress photo booth.

I may well be doing this ?

Other ones we have thought of are special places, favourite childhood books, favourite songs... We went to a wedding of 2 teachers a while ago and then had subjects which was good.

Are you getting married in Ireland? You could have an Irish theme such as the Shamrock table?

We have a movie theme, and our tables are going to be our favourite films, but we're making a new version of the posters with us in place of the main characters on the front ?

My OH and his dad restore vintage tractors for a hobby (strange I know), and he proposed to me on one of them out on a ride round the countryside, so we're going to name our tables after the tractors we've got. It's unique and special to us. Others probably think it's weird, but if nothing else it'll be a conversation starter!

Go for something special to you and your OH.

I would agree with the other hitchers, find something that means something to you both. Me and OH really value our time away, so opted for destinations/holidays that meant something to us. It should be personal to you, otherwise its no different to just having 1, 2, 3 etc

We are having a 1940s theme for the day, my table plan is a vintage 1940s suitcase with luggage tags to demonstrate whose on which table, I am going to make a sign to put on top saying "you are being evacuated to...." and the tables will be towns/ counties that kids would have been evacuated to, we will focus on towns or counties that mean something to us! The place names are evacuee tags :-)

We were having problems with this and in the end because our theme has purple in it - we went with all things purple!!

Namely characters in films and adverts that are purple - think Tinky Winky, Grimace, Grape Ape, Disneys' Cheshire cat and so on.

Just for fun and humorous and no worrying about pecking order with numbers on tables.

    Swampy

My H2B LOVES west ham, he wanted claret and blue colours but I was not liking that, so a compromise for there being something west ham is we are having west ham legends names as table names. it has made him happy and I am not fussed as we had nothing else in mind.
