Table name/number holders - opinions please

Shamy, 19 August, 2014 at 22:44 Posted on Planning 0 7

Our venue charges £24 to hire these so I'd prefer to buy some, but I can't decide between 'high' and 'low' ones.

The centrepieces will look similar to these:

Tall idea:

Short idea:

What do you ladies think? I did ask OH if he had any wood lying around so that we could make a DIY version of the short idea but he doesn't, so it's back to the drawing board.

Being is it is coming up to the season of wood burning, you could buy a cheap bag of logs from the garage or supermarket or farm shop - wherever, and ask your OH to slice them and dice them to hold the numbers, and spray them white?

Or you could try B&Q for some wood? Should be pretty inexpensive.

I think the short one looks better- compliments the tall centre pieces & doesn't try to take away from it.

The idea above me sounds good (chopping up wood yourself & painting it)

Yup ! a length of 2x3 from b&Q and a hand saw, paint first in your colour scheme colour (if you have one) and the second coat of white and then sand paper the edges for a vintage look showing the base colour. You (he) will also need to cut a slot to take the number plaque.

Thanks everyone. We are moving house this weekend and with just over 2 weeks to go before the wedding I think if we need to buy the wood at this stage we might as well just buy them pre-made. If we already had it we might have tried to to give it a go!

I really don't know how you're coping with moving and getting married at the same time!! I like the little ones better :-)

Assuming you mean £24 for all of them and not each(!) I would hire them. It's not like making them is going to save you loads of money (especially if you cost your time) but hiring them would save you time and grief. It is also one of those details that no one but you is ever going to notice - so why make life complicated?

Yeah £24 for all, but I've no idea what they look like (although I'm guessing they're metal) and I prefer something white. The short ones one cost me £15 on eBay including postage and I can sell them on after. I think the venue should hire them out for free really but I'm biased and that's weddings! They do provide umbrellas though so it's swings and roundabouts really.
