Hi all,

Just wondered if people are naming/themeing their tables other than numbers?

Please share x

We are namin ours with things that mean something to us, they will also encourage discussion of what they relate to, i.e. match.com for where we met, th boat name of where we got engaged etc. Some people will know some wont, just didnt want boring numbers!

    Have you any ideas yet?

I didnt want boring numbers either, but undecided as yet, just gathering ideas. Our invites (which I will flash as soon as mock up is done) will have a picture of us holding sign saying 'wedding invitation',so possibly doing the same with table names/numbers, to follow theme through. Bit tricky to explain will show you soon what I mean.

I know some people will have place they have visited but we have only been to Devon so every table being named Devon would be confusing.

We're having our tables named after the suites at The Witchery which is where we're going on our mini moon... haven't told anyone yet and may give a prize to the first person who guesses!

We are having different years and each year will be in a picture frame with a photo of each of us on that year. Should be fun putting the photos together and hopefully it'll be a talking point for people on the tables too.

We named our tables after different landmarks in New Zealand (this is where we live but we came back to UK to get married as we are both from England originally, but wanted a bit of kiwi flavour to the wedding). I bought photo postcards of the landmarks, mounted them and we had them on the usual silver table number holders. On the back of each card I put some silly trivia about New Zealand. I think its nice to do something that reflects you two as a couple.

Our theme is an English country fayre, with bunting and jam jars. There's a lot of home made stuff running through and our tables will be 'named' after fabrics. So people will see the name lists, with a fabric header and then hopefully go to the fabric mounted in a frame on the table. Gingham, paisley, tartan, dot, floral, stripe, stars, hearts, argyle - and all these fabrics are used in the home made bunting. Hope it'll work OK!

Table names are a great idea, guests would much rather be seated at table 'love and happiness' rather than table 11.

Our brides often choose places / holidays they have been to together. Involve your H2B, is there a favourite football team - perhaps use football grounds or famous players names.

We chose sailing venues we went to the year before we got married.

    Hope this helps!

Our top table will be named after the cruise ship he proposed on, then all the other tables will be named after the places we visited on the cruise. So we will be on the Sea Princess, others will be Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Sardinia, Rome, Cadiz, Florence.

A few ideas from weddings I've done - Places in Cornwall (the couple met there), Formula one teams with little flags etc, Ports of the World (The couple were going on a cruise for their honeymoon) Names of Gems - Diamond, Ruby, Emerald etc, Endangered species Panda table, and such. Hope that helps.

Me and my h2b are having a beach theme, so we are naming the tables after beaches. And a friend had a butterfly theme so the tables were named after butterflies.

I did a wedding where the tables had 'clues' as the names. At the end of the meal the guests had to go round the tables and gather up the clues to find the answer (think it was either where they'd first met or where they were going on honeymoon). As the tables were mixed it got everyone talking and working together and mixing with everyone. The winning table got a bottle to share. As half the guests came from New Zealand and the other half from all over England, it was an excellent way of getting people talking and mixing.....people milling round collecting clues and the excitement of discussing them etc raised the energy in the room and the atmosphere was brilliant.

We got engaged in Lake Garda, Italy so I'm thinking of naming the tables after the towns around the lake with Malcesine (where we got engaged) as the top table.

Love some of these ideas. Our friends had animals, as their honeymoon was in Kenya. We're having Tottenham Hotspur players, and our top table is White Hart Lane (Spurs ground) as my OH is a massive fan, and I'm pretty much making all the other decisions! It's the only thing he's asked for, plus it's personal to us x

This probably sounds naff, but its not like they relate to the theme of the wedding as such - we have 4 tables, so are naming them after the Hogwarts houses because B2B and are are a little obsessed with Harry...

What fantastic ideas! Omg Beccy I've wanted to go to The Witchery for years!! Soo jealous! The rooms look super amazing!!

As we're going to New Zealand for part of our honeymoon we were thinking of naming each table after our favourite wines which come from NZ - Mud House, Cloudy Bay, Tinpot Hut etc and having a bottle of that wine on each table. (only problem is would add quite a few pennies to the budget!)

The other idea was to have each table in Swahili numbers (my Mum was born and brought up in Nairobi).

The current favourite idea is to name each table after comedians and have a quote on the table names about love/ something silly. So Spike Milligan, Tommy Cooper, Billy Connolly etc etc...

Still undecided about which one to go for though.. x

We're naming our tables after fun places and hotels in Vegas. I like having names on tables rather than numbers. It often says a lot about the couple. A friends wedding at Lord's last year *waves at Alicat* had tables named after cricket positions. Cow Corner was particularly amusing! Step sister-in-law named her tables after places they had visited when they were travelling together.

We're going to have pictures of our parents and grandparents wedding pictures on each table - possibly called by their names - not fully decided what 'names' - only one grandparent will be there - we're also going to incorporate pics of each guest onto their name card. We've just started collecting pictures and its quite fun choosing! We're going to choose ones that link them to us!

These are just some of the themes we've had for table names over the years:

    Famous couples

    Words to do with "love"

    Favourite movies

Sweets (quite a popular one that)

    Trees

    Flowers

Specific flowers and colours from the Bride's bouquet

The historical figures associated with a particular venue (including a short explanation on the table name cards)

Champagne brands eg Krug, Moet et

    "Butterfly" in different languages

Reindeer - Comet, vixen, rudolph etc

    Florida theme parks

    Places visited together

    Clubs eg Pacha

    and . . .

    . . .Carry On Films (!!)

We are going to name our tables after 80's movies (both big fans) eg. the Lost Boys, the Goonies.....etc. We are going to play on this in a coupleof ways...our wedding invitations will be like the 'True Romance' movie poster. We are then going to get people involved by playing some songs from the movies randomly during the reception disco and the worst 80's dance moves get a bottle of champers.
