Table Names

amanda66, 30 April, 2012 at 21:29 Posted on Planning 0 54

Hello ?

We are currently about 4 months away from the wedding and my darling mother has got me stressing about what to name our tables.

We have the top table to seat 7 and 7 tables that seat 8 and I need table names as I have two aunties that need to sit at seperate tables but I don't want any table hierarchy of why am I on table 5 and she's on table 3 blah blah blah!!.

So...I'm trying to decipher what to call our tables and the only names I have seen so far are:

Precious Stones - Diamond, Pearl, Topaz etc.

or Sweets - love hearts for the top table, wine gums etc and use these in the favour boxes and on table plans.

These are the only ideas I have and despite searching google I haven't had my "wow" moment of thats what I want.

So help me ladies - what are you having or give me some more ideas please.

Thank You

Amanda

Could you maybe use any important "venues" or "dates" in your and H2B's life? So the date you met, first date, got engaged, birthdays, first holiday etc? or maybe important places so where you have been on holiday etc

I don't think we had table names, but then we didnt have any hierachy issues, that is awful when that happens

Could you use things that mean stuff to you? OH and I are having the corner names of Silverstone (we're both motorsport geeks and got engaged at Silverstone). Friends of ours had places they'd visited together

We had the street names of all the houses and places we've spent time together over the years.

I designed them to look like old fashioned street signs.

My friends have had some blinders for table names which were both personal to them and meant no hierarchy squabbles. Here are a couple of examples:

    - Albums of the 90s - the two friends in question here love their 90s music so the table names were things like Nevermind, Parklife etc etc. I thought that was quite nice.
    - Names of local pubs - the top table was their favourite pub

We haven't thought about what we're doing for ours but we're definitely going down that sort of road ?

We're having different types of tea as we're having a tea party theme.

    We also thought about:

    rivers (D kayaks)

Places we'd been together, London, Rome, Manchester etc

Classic cars (D works for a car company)

    Historical places (i'm a historian)

I think its really funny the silly little things that stress us out when planning a wedding!

Once the wedding is passed I bet u will realise this yourself, however that wont help you the now.

We are naming out tables after disney films as we have 2 young sons and want a part of them in the day so let them choose the table names as this was not a big deal to us.

Are you going on a honeymoon? You could name them after places on your honeymoon. Importanat dates... date you got together/engaged/et

    Colours of the rainbow?

I had planned to name my tables after songs then at the evening reception when that particular song was played the people sitting at the table for the meal had to get up and dance, the best/funniest table got a free drink. (each table would have been announced by the dj/band so everyone knew what was happening.

We are thinking of naming ours after different red wines (as we like our red wine) with a brief description of the wine (hopefully entertaining!). Had thought of different military ranks as by OH is ex army. You could do different types of cake ?? Or types of cheese ?? Could you link in with any hobbies you have or go for music like the other lady said. Or you could use types of butterfly or cloud formations ?? Hope that's of some help ?? Table names can be a bit of fun if personal to you.

Where are you getting married or where is your reception? Our reception is at Brooklands museum so we are planning on either old war planes or old racing themed vehicles...

I saw table names done like the favourite music album covers of their favourite bands, each one was unique and looked amazing!

I'm going for holiday destinations we've been to, but got ages to decide x

Wowser, that's where we are getting married and having our reception! Small world, especially as it is not a "usual" place to get married!

Due to the venue and our 1940s theme, we are thinking of having cou ties that kids were evacuated too, old war planes or something similar

OH and I are well known for our love of board games. We're always getting new ones....complicated ones. So we thought we'd have or favourite ones as table names. So far we have; Agricola, Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, 7 Wonders, Carcassonne, Stone Age, Bohnanza, Puerto Rico, and I can't remember the others.

They don't mean much to others, but to us they are something special ?

We enjoy nothing better than chilling at home watching telly. So we're having tv shows - Kitchen Nightmares, The Inbetweeners, An Idiot Abroad - we put some funny ones in there so folk will be amused by their table name (and hopefully not offended haha)

Forgive me if this has been said, I saw the question but havent read all your replies! My best friend had the word love in different languages. I was on amore, but I'm not sure what the others were. A few minutes on translator on the internet will no doubt help! It seemed like a nice idea tho.

We are having places that we will visit on our honeymoon cruise.

    Thanks everyone for your replies.

I love some of these ideas and will talk them through with other half.

Particurlarly liking the tv programmes and I like the street name one and for a bit of random trivia I have only ever lived in 3 houses in my life and other half has lived in all 3 of them (2 with me and 1 he lived in after my family had moved out - strange eh!) x
