Table names?

Turtleiris, 10 January, 2013 at 18:46 Posted on Planning 0 46

Just wondering what brides were doing with table names? Are you just numbering them or giving them specific names?

I've decided mine will be special places we've been that mean something to us. Not sure what OH feels, suppose I'd better discuss things with him at some point ?

I named them purely because we had 17 tables and I didn't want there to be a perceived hierarchy.

H decided to name them after the streets of the houses where we've spent time together as a couple (our houses, uni houses, parents houses etc)

Ours were named after bands/songs. So 'St Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band', 'The Lovecats' etc.

    Hehehehe.

We named the tables after places we'd been on holiday and enjoyed being a couple. Mainly because if they were numbers, you then have issues of family thinking they are on a better/worse table than other people. Well, my family would think it anyway, so we opted for names.

Music is really important to both of us so we're going for our favourite bands names and our table plan & table signs will be album covers from each band Smiley smile most are rock bands but it simply couldnt be my wedding without putting my best friend from school on the Take That table - just had to be done and I know she will love it!!!

We're giving ours names of people who come from areas which mean something to us, eg 'Stevenson' after Robert Louis Stevenson from Edinburgh, where we got engaged. It was my OH's idea and I think he did great!

Ours are going to be Racing Track Names... We do Have a table on our list which is the track we don't like for those guests which are required to be there... I think that was the nicest way of putting it Smiley smile

We're naming our tables (again to avoid the number-hierarchy issue!) after characters from Alice In Wonderland.
Each one has the character name, a copy of the original Tenniel line drawing of that character, and a fitting quote to go with it.

The place-names for each guest will have a smaller version of their table-picture on it.

They all look lovely printed on slightly pearlescent ivory card ?

We're having the names of some of our favourite Discworld books. The table plan will be on a map of Ankh-Morpork, and the table names will be either the book itself, or a picture of the front cover.

We are having Marvel superheros. My parents went to a wedding recently and the Groom was a farmer, all their tables were tractor names.

My OH and I met online and I had an idea to do with that but he wouldn't let me. I want to give all the tables the names of fictional freaky characters, find pictures of strange looking people on the Internet and then right funny dating profiles for them. He's really touchy and thinks there's a stigma about how we met (whereas I used it as material for my stand up).

OH shoots regularly (I never see him during shoot season!) so we thought we'd name ours after game birds, but I wanted to expand on just 'pheasant' or 'partridge' so because I work in a pub we've named the tables after beers/whiskey/vodka which have game bird related names i.e. Famous Grouse, Pickled Partridge, Speckled Hen, Grey Goose, Frightened Pheasant etc etc Smiley smile

Just to throw another idea into the mix, we are having random numbers representing our ages and then having photos on the back of us at that age. Can't wait to dig through our parents photo albums for the pictures I'm sure there are loads of dodgy ones showing 70s and 80s fashion at its best!!

Let us know what you decide on!

I am English and my other half is Welsh. We're getting married in Northumberland so we wanted to incorporate a little bit of Welsh into our day.....we are having our table names as various words relating to love and marriage in Welsh (romance, kiss, cuddle, forever etc).
