Table names?

loves-young-dream, 30 March, 2014 at 08:49 Posted on Planning 0 32

Are you having them?

I like the word love in different languages but also we met at school so was thinking of maths, English etc? Will people 'get' it or just wonder why they're on the science table etc haha

I have no ideas at all, but I'm commenting so that I can follow this thread! FSIL suggested we did special places to us as our table names, but I wasn't keen on some of the place names we came up with.

I think both those names are quite original. Your OH can explain it in his speech if you feel the need to. We're doing cities we've visited as we love to travel and we're putting pictures of us in each destination on the tables.

We're doing something similar to you F&G Bride; we spent a year travelling around Australia so we're naming the tables after our favourite places there. We're going to have pictures too - it's going to take a while to track down some decent ones! I think the school classes idea is brilliant.

Aw, I so want table names but not having a sit down meal so can't really do it.

I think both your ideas are lovely but the idea of having love in different languages would be my preference. Still a bit "schooly" as well really as we all do languages at school.

If we were to have table names we would be having game of thrones locations (massive game of thrones geeks), I think that's why I really want them! lol x

We're having our tables named after race tracks because OH is massively in to motor racing. I would definitely recommend table names as it a bit more personal than numbers.

I like both of these ideas...and as said before, if you got with school subjects it can be explained in the grooms speech! I do think the word love in different languages is really lovely though!

I like the school idea, or maybe along similar lines you could come up with things that are school related but not just names of subjects. So maybe a school trip that you both went on, or the year that you met, or the name of the teacher whose class you were in. Then you in smaller writing or on the back of the table names you can explain why the table name means something to you - it gives your guests something to talk about too!

We're having the countries we have travelled to/lived in together. On the back, we have an explanation of when we were there, things that we did, etc.

Maybe you could do similar with subjects? You could have a basic intro sentence to explain the concept and then something more specific like you favourite teachers, things you studied (books in English, algebra that you have forgotten, etc) or mention about things that you did in those lessons - like passing notes to each other, or always waiting for the bell in last period Science to get out and see your h2b? (obviously, they would have to be things that actually happened, I'm just making them up based on high school films!!)

We're not having table names as it's a U shaped table or we'd have loved band names or songs.

Have whatever you both want, i'm sure guests wont think anything of it Smiley smile

We're having woodland animals as our table names. Our wedding is set around a woodland theme, colours are brown and cobalt blue, are venue is in the middle of no where, our table decorations are very natural and woodlandy, we didn't want tree names so went with woodland animals.

Lol Sheldon! That made me laugh. I like the idea of something different, but will probably just go for numbers. Or maybe golf courses as my h2b is a huge fan and our reception is at a golf club.

We're having a subtle school theme as we met whilst working in one. Our tables are going to be named after schools we've attended / worked in and we've got cute little blackboards to write them on. We're also doing a DIY photo booth with school themed props and handheld chalkboards for messages. For our guest book I'm designing an American style year book of our guests with spaces of them to write messages, and we're doing the flowers ourselves and plan to tie them with old school style name tapes (not cut up) with our names and the date on. And to top it all of, our venue used to be a girls boarding school Smiley laugh

Lovely table name suggestions! I think both love in languages and school topics are fantastic you could extend them to all sorts like business and history, marketing even. In the end choose one you both love and that makes you two giggle, don't worry if no one gets it!

I have a subtle disney fairytale theme (more elegant than kids party!) and I'm having disney kingdoms like enchanted forest, wonderland etc as names. I don't think many guests will get it either but it seems right 'cause OH and I are really kids at heart!

    Happy planing dear! Smiley smile

You asked if people would 'get' the school theme. Something that would help that would be to not just have the single word 'English' etc. You had some good suggestions from other people here - going a bit more elaborate, eg. 'English class', 'School gym' etc. It'd make the theme a lot more obvious, and you can put some fun titles in, like 'Behind the bike shed' and 'Detention' (I'd put the rowdy folk on that one).

Don't worry too much about people not getting it.

We have places we were due to visit on our honeymoon as we were touring Sri Lanka - Dambulla, Sigyria, Kandy etc. With a photo of the place and a description on the back on an oversized postcard, which also matched the table plan.

I would use school type themes to go with the names - blackboards etc.

    Hey all,

I was thinking of having table names and numbers both to signify things we have done/seen/special dates/amounts of things we have done together and to get people talking. For example, I thought of having a table 3664 days - how long the bride and groom have been together before getting married.

What others can people think of?

I don't know yet, We are big into our music, so we were playing with the idea of having tables names after our most favorite albums, and have the album artwork on the tables. I suppose if you are wondering if people will 'get it' with why you named the tables, have a little note in one of those wire picture holders for them to read when they sit down. It's a good way to reveal a little fact about your relationship Smiley smile

We are having musicals as OH has a drama degree and we love going to the theatre.

I think the school idea is really cute, especially love putting the rowdy people on the detention table xx

We are naming the tables after cartoons we both loved when we were little (Transformers, Count Duckula, Scooby doo etc.) Doesnt match the rest of the country barn wedding theme but it makes us happy!

We are having places special to us with a very brief description of why it's so special. We wanted to have our wedding venue as our top table without it looking a bit weird so my OH came up with the idea of Top of the World which I love.
