You could either go with famous ones like golden gate bridge and te one you mentioned, or maybe something more personal to you/OH/family/friends/area you live in.

We are having our reception in wimbledon village & thinking of calling tables after the wombles.

I did see a programme where a couple called their tables after all the places they had travelled together.. and their top table was called..' on top of the world'.

There are some great ideas here! I love the idea of having table names instead of numbers - but did agree with what someone else mentioned about possible 'rankings.' I did an English lit degree and am bit of a literature nerd in general, so I'm pushing for having my favourite writers! Would be something like this:

    Austen
    Bronte
    Shakespeare
    Dickens
    Shelley
    Woolf

I don't think it's geeky...but i think H2B has some reservations! I can't see myself having famous West Ham players though...hmm we may have to compromise!! Not sure if half and half would work or make sense though really.....?

I was out for dinner with OH the other night and we were discussing this very subject. We were gonna go with the traditional '1,2,3.....etc', but after much discussion, decided it'd be a good talking point for our guests, so think we're gonna have proper table names now.

Yes, some of the suggestions were ridiculous, or wholly inapropriate, and at one point i was laughing so much that half the people in the restaurant were staring at 'the weird girl in the corner'!!?

Anyhoo.....seeing as tho h2b and i are both science nerds [:I], we're thinking of going with the theme of 'famous scientists', eg, darwin, hawking, rutherford......the list continues!! OH even suggested a fact sheet for each table about 'their' scientist and a quiz at the end.?

I love this quiz idea! I may pinch if you don't mind, [:I] and tweak it to mine (my favourite writers) what a great idea! I know I will probably enjoy it more than my guests....but oh well!! ?
