Table names - giving me a headache!

Buzzee, 23 November, 2011 at 22:13 Posted on Planning 0 25

With 5 weeks to go(!!!) we've still not decided on table names. Gone through a huuuuge list of options (from snow related words to holiday places, years, football players, winter cocktails) and have kind of settled on naming the tables after breakfast foods! It is the wedding breakfast afterall! But I am not convinced people will "get it"!

We need 9 tables and have come up with:

  • The Full English
  • Snap, Crackle & Pop
  • Tea & Toast
  • Coffee & Croissants
  • Egg McMuffins
  • Last Night's Pizza
  • Boiled Egg & soldiers
  • Fruit Salad
  • Hair of the Dog

Or do you think it would be better to name them things like Crispy Bacon, Succulent Sausages, Sunny Side Up Eggs etc

OR is it just a rubbish idea and should i resort to 1,2,3......!

Finding it so hard to make a decision!

HELP MEEEE!

Personally, I don't really like those as table names, particularly if not personally relevant to you, your partner, and/or your relationship and would go for numbers. BUT, I can see that done in the right setting and tone they could be a talking point and ice-breaker for tables where people don't know one another.

People will get it. If you put on the table plan or somewhere something like 'take your seats for the wedding breakfast' then it'll be obvious. If you two love it then go for it. We're having varieties of apples with the apple type in the centre piece and as the favours. Good luck!

If the wedding was before Christmas then reindeer names would be perfect (or carols/Christmas connections), but we're just after so bit stuck!

Think i will just resort to numbers, or words related to snow: snowball, snowflake, snowman etc but was worried people wouldn't read it properly and head for the wrong table as the words are quite similar!

We still haven't decided either if that's any consolation! In fact, we haven't had a conversation about it yet and i know that when i bring it up OH will just look at me blankly. I agree that after Christmas, even by a few days, christmas things lose their appeal. I think we might go for (or what I'm going to suggest) is either street names from places we've lived since we've got together because we've moved a lot or bands/musicians. I saw one recently which i thought was nice - the tables was mostly grouped from where either the bride or groom knew the guests from. So I was at the Edinburgh table as a bunch of us had done our masters with her there. Her family were at the Epsom table and so on. A few strays but generally worked and was nice.

Winterbride - does breakfast have any special meaning to you? It does seem quite random. Do either of you have any hobbies? like travelling? collect anything? favourite tv programmes/film/songs?

We are having names of our cats and family cats! We are real cat people and love our 2 boys and our family are real cat people as well so we are having our cats as the top table and then family cats and childhood cats as the others! We are having a pic of them as the centre with their names on so people know what we are referring to but at least one cat is known by every guest so should work!x

Ours are going to either be favourite baseball players or favourite places in NY with a couple of little facts about each on the back

WSS. It's different and it's quite amusing. I don't know if we'll do table names, but people who do always seem to do the same type of things, so you should be proud that yours is a bit different!

Personally I've never understood why it's called a wedding "breakfast" when its usually your evening meal, it drives me mad! If you like the idea though then go for it, its your day. Me n my OH are big television watchers and are having ours named after our fave tv shows such as:

    The Inbetweeners

    Supernaturual

    Shameless

    Kitchen Nightmares

We have loads, just a small selection, my mum doesn't particularly like this idea but we both love it so its what we're having x

Ours is December the 8th and we are either having Reindeer names or the Twelve Days of Christmas Smiley smile xx I think there are loads for a winter theme. You could have just christmas words such as

    Holly and Berries

    Misletoe and Wine

    Christmas Tree and Tinsel

    Mr and Mrs Clause

    Reindeer and Sleigh

    Snowflake and Icicles

    Mince pies and Brandy Sauce

Or stuff like that or you could have Christmas Carol or song names

    Silent Night

    Little town of Bethlehem

    Little Donkey

    Santa Baby

    Hope that helps hun xxx

I think it's because it's your first meal as a married couple? Not entirely sure but thats what I thought it referred to lol

With regards to table names i'd say go for whatever you both want! Don't worry about other peoples opinion, it's your day and you should do it your way Smiley smile

We have 2 little boys and our fav family holiday is to thomasland. We asked the boys if they could think of names for the tables for our wedding (my boys think of it as their wedding too, which i love).

The names they came up with were ...

...yep you guessed it Thomas , percy, james, edward, harold etc

Think we gona go with that and on the tables use photos of us at thomasland with the relevent train. eg my h2b, H +D sitting next to james the train! Makes it more personal to us. Not very romantic or weddingy but we dont care.

We're having tor names, and having photos of the tors taken by OH. Some will probably feature me and the dog and a select few will have OH as well.

Top table just had to be Yes Tor, although it's a metre or so shorter than the highest on Dartmoor, it just had to be done. Other likely ones are Great Mis Tor, High Willhays (highest on Dartmoor and our dog's pedigree name) Hound Tor, Hay Tor. Resisting the temptation of Spinsters Rock though...

As Brides to Be/OMs, we obviously know that the meal is called the wedding breakfast, but I bet if we asked half of our OH's, they'd have no idea.

Knowing that it's called that, I think it's quite a fun idea, but I'd be sure to incorporate it somewhere e.g. on the bottom of each table name, put "WinterBride and Mr WB's Wedding Breakfast - x.12.11".

Maybe even on the back you could put the background to why it's called that. I'm sure you coudl find it on google. AS someone else said, it's something to do with being your first meal as H&W.
