Numbers. I don't really get the point of having names to be honest.

I have always thought we would have numbers as I really can't be bothered to think of names and then make them! The venue can supply the numbers and the holders.

However, someone pointed out to be that if there are 10 tables, numbers 1-10, the guests on table 10 may feel like they are an after thought!

So I may have random numbering! They'll probably realise they're an after thought anyway when they're stuck at the back of the room!

We'll only have names if we can think of something interesting...at the minute its supercars for a bit of something boy-friendly.

    Otherwise its numbers....

I was thinking about this and then I read that traditionally the groom gets to name the tables (must be a newer tradition though eh!) so I discussed it with him and we couldn't agree on what to have, F1 Teams/tracks or fave musicians/bands, then I just said what about words we like? Therefore, our tables are:

    Zeitgeist
    Zoom
    Whoosh
    Kerplunk
    Giddy
    Quagaar

He's also been known to make up words in scrabble so we could also have had glof or wran.?

We were set on having numbers, mainly cos we didn't realise you could have names ([:I]) and also as we really couldn't be bothered to think of anything!

Although, while we were out to dinner a few weeks ago we were discussing this and thought it could be a good talking point for the guests, so we may be going for it now!

Best suggestion we(actually hubby) came up with was famous scientists (we're science nerds <hangs head in shame&gt?, such as Darwin (top table of course!), Einstein, Rutherford (loving this one!).

OH even suggested there be a fact sheet with each table, and then a quiz!!!!?

For my sins i told H2B he could deal with this - i now have tables named after those my H2B considers Liverpool FC legends. Tables are
Shankley, Fowler, Gerrard, Owen, Dalglish, Hughes, Rush.

Pleasing my dad no end - being the avid Chelsea supporter that he is ?

    We're having both...

Written out numbers in Cornish IYSWIM.

    (onan, dew, tri, peswar, etc.)

If we were having names I would have wanted Marillion albums, but some of them aren't ideal for table names (eg. Clutching at Straws, Brave, Somewhere Else). And H2B isn't exactly what you'd call a fan [:I]. TBH though, I'm not sure I like the idea of names, numbers is good enough because we're not really having a theme as such (other than Cornish, but the wedding's in Cornwall).

This is the first time I have actually thought about it since the comment above was made (by my CBM), and the guests on the tables at the back of the room will be my dad's weird relations that no-one really likes, so I don't care if they get in a huff about being stuck at the back! They're lucky they're being invited at all!

Sod em, I'm having numbers, that way I don't have to do anything!

We're having names, mainly because I just fancied coming up with names for the table plan. (We're having the word love in diff languages, ridiculously soppy I know).

Other ones I've seen in Scotland are: Scottish lochs, islands and whiskys (with a bottle on each table).

I'm sure some people do get offended by the numbers, but they are the same people who you can't please anyway, so I wouldn't let it bother you too much. I just thought it would be a nice little talking point.

We originally planned on just having numbers, but then we had the idea of acknowledging our grandparents by naming the tables after them. Our tables will be:
    Edward
    Elizabeth
    William
    Clara
    Reginald
    Florence
    Clifford

h2b's grandad, Eddie, is the only grandparent still alive and will be seated on the Edward table.

We're having numbers because i must admit i find the idea of names a little bit cheesy... but thats probably because im not imaginative enough to come up with any good themes for names!!?

We're not having names or numbers as we only have one table but if we were then I think we'd have thought of names as it seems quite good fun!

This all sounds like a bit of a minefield, not to mention more work that my frazzled brain could do without...
glad we get to avoid the whole issue as we're going for long tables (is it banquet style I mean??) rather than all separate round ones.

We are naming tables based on our holiday destinations during the years that we have been together

I have been to weddings where they named tables using flower names or names of famous couples

Love the famous scientist names as OH is a science teacher, also love the relevant dates (when you met etc).

I'm a massive reader and tea drinker, so I was thinking of different teas (can only think of camomile or earl grey at the moment though[:I]) or our fave books...saying that but will probably just go with numbers for ease?

I think we're having names - we're both outdoorsy so are having a bit of a snowy, alpine theme (partly in the vain hope that it might snow, though not too much (yep, I'm picky!!)), so we're probably having mountain names for ours, but they're all ones that mean something to the us / families. Probably having pics of the mountains as part of the table centres and on the table plan, but not really thought it through yet!

We're having names (well I haven't yet discussed with H2B but sure he'll be fine). I was thinking either places found at our honeymoon destination (TBc) or places in New York (that's where H2B proposed) for example: Central Park, Empire State etc or maybe something Hindu as H2B family is Hindu...thought that might be a nice touch on what is otherwise a traditional English wedding!!
