Table Plan Question

sherbert, 11 August, 2010 at 17:14 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hello, All the stupid questions seem to be popping up now I'm getting closer. I'm having a top table and 5 round tables. Does my table plan have to round or can I still have the list of names kind, if I can have this, would I still put the names similiar to where they are sitting or just a list, because how the names will look in a list would not necessarily be how I would write them if I was just writing a list. (if you know what I mean) For example I would put my SIL at the top of a list because she is family but on a seating plan she would be further down because the person at the top of the list will be sitting by the person at the bottom.

You deserve an award if you even know what I am talking about.

Thanks

I get what you mean, and I don't think it matters which way you do it!

I'd be inclined to either go with your favourite person at the top (no reason, just a way of choosing who goes first) and then the order they'll be sat around the table or list each table alphabetically. That probably works better where your guests share the same surname (you might find some weirdo couples panicking because they think they'll not be sat next to each other for a whole two hours ? ).

Just go with what you thinks looks best on your table plan.

How you name them depends on how formal your day is. We are doing "title, initial, surname" on both the plan and the place card. It fits with the kind of recpetion we are having. But if you are more casual, go for first names!

Surnames are pretty essential unless you don't have any double ups of first names! And to be honest I think it just looks nicer as well.

Table plans are just a map for folk to find their tables - the place names are the guide once they get to their table so don't worry about tables being represented absolutely as they are in the room on the plan ...

folk will look, find their name and move on ...

Are you making it yourself? Any chance of a flash?!

ETA - I had round tables and I picked the 12 o clock person at each table as the first person listed on the table plan and did it that way - in no way relevant to if they were family or not ...

I would think you can do it however you want.

As long as people know what table they are sitting on, that should be enough ;-)

We'll be putting surnames on the table plan but not on the place cards.

Sorry but I had to laugh at your post, it'd be something that would boggle my mind too.

I think the list style is good but have seen some table plans that you can have different shaped tables on and write peoples names around them. Does that make sense?! I can find a link to explain it..

Our venue has asked us to provide a table plan for them to work from that shows where people are sitting on each table. For the guests however, we will judt have the list of guests under each table name and when they get to the table they just then need to find their name card!

    Good luck!

Thanks for everyones replies. I think I'm going to use surnames it will look better.

I was going to make it but the hotel said they can do one for me. I know it won't be as nice but I'm not sure if I have got enough time now to do it, plus I'm not very crafty. If I do make it I will flash it. x
