Table Planning

Mrs2bgj, 25 February, 2013 at 12:43 Posted on Planning 0 5

Can I pick everyone's brains please. We don't want a `top table' in the traditional sense and have got stuck on how the tables should be laid out as I'm not sure I want it to be the 2 of us being the prime focus. Anyone else done this?

We went for a round "top table" that most of the usual suspects were on. We sat so that we faced the room as we thought most people want to see the bride and groom during the speaches, but it meant we didn't feel as on show whilst we were eating.

    Could that work for you?

We had an oval top table, with us facing the room, shared with the families etc. Our table were loosely arranged in two rows of three and we were the middle of one row.

We've got trestle tables, ours is a little bit 'top' because we had an uneven number of tables. We'll sit with the best man and his family, and my son. Then a table of his family, a table of mine and the rest of family and bridal party spread fairly evenly across the remaining 4 tables.

We had all round tables, all with 8/10 people on. We just used one if those with our close family etc. It was very relaxed and worked well.

We are having different sized rectangular and square tables depending on numbers on each. Our table will be slap bang in the middle of them all so we feel in the midst of everything and noone will feel there is a hierarchy. In fact, it will be us, our 4, 14 and 15 yr old, 2of our sisters, their fellas and 3 nephews. Just doing that to keep the 3 3-5yr old cousins together. My older 2 will be on the under 25s table, other sister and BIL, step bro and step sis on the child free table and all 3sets of parents on another, along with my BILs parents and grandma who I am close to. So, nothing traditional in our layout but it should work well for everyone xx
