table plans + top table

kat73, 27 March, 2011 at 20:24 Posted on Planning 0 4

Need some advice about table plans, we are having an informal reception we are getting married at 4pm so we didnt have to have a sit dowm meal( due to cost) so we are just going to be having a cold fork buffet i m thinking that as its just a buffet is it ncessary for us to have a top table as we probably wont b all sitting down to eat at the same time , the tables are round at the venue so i thought we may just have our own table ? also does any one think as its an informal reception its not necesary for us to do a table plan ? any ideas would b great !

We're having a buffet but still using a table plan because I've heard from others that guests can get a bit anxious without one. Personally if I was a guest at a wedding and didn't know where to sit, it would make me feel quite uncomfortable.

I'd have thought that the absence of a seating plan would have indicated that the bride and groom don't mind where people sit, therefore it shouldn't make you feel uncomfortable at the thought of perhaps sitting in the wrong seat.

We may have a wedding breakfast seating plan - but definitely not for the evening reception

I would be inclined to go for a table plan still, but it depends how well your guests know each other I think and if there is any possibility of providing more seats than your numbers actually require. Reason being, one wedding I went to without a table plan, the bride and groom's family hadn't met before and were from very different backgrounds so there wasn't much mingling going on and also large family groups comandeered the tables leaving only single seats here and there - not much good when we didn't know anyone else and didn't particularly fancy sitting at opposite ends of the room! I personally found it very uncomfortable. At least if there are more seats than there are people, it makes it easier for couples to find two together.

Im doing exactly the same, married at 4pm, and a buffet. Were having a table plan, not a seating plan, so basically everyone is seated with people they know and are comfortable with, and everyone has a seat instead of 15 people trying to squeeze round one table, and 5 on another.
