Take That - are they just rubbish? - I stand corrected!

~~~liz~~~, 3 July, 2009 at 15:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 63
I meant to post this a while ago but forgot. Seeing as there are a few TT post of late, I thought now would be a good time.
TT were on Jonathon Ross a couple of weeks ago, sang a couple of songs. I was planning on buying tickets off e*bay if they were any good but they sounded awful...not lady gaga awful....even worse!
So...are they really that bad or were they just having an off night? Based on that performance, I wouldnt even go to a free concert if they did one!
ETA : sorry to offend any TT fans. <waits to be flamed>
    Although I do like their music, I'm not a huge fan of them just standing there singing but their concerts are just spectular and worth every single penny. It's a real extravaganza!
    Maybe Im not judging them at their best as it was obviously just on the JR stage so very small. But he did show a clip of the tour (big elephant) and that was just as bad. Maybe its my ears?!
    I think it's your ears. They were great on JR and even better live.
    <nails down letterbox before HH sends hate mail>
    Now you mention it, I think its a load of poop this year. Ive watched maybe 3 shows this year and turned off before the end. I normally really like it but its just been dull (from what Ive seen).
    <hides>
    ETA Ive only got no more nails tape and I dont think that would work!
    Well I saw them on Wednesday and they were fantastic live, not just Gary but all of them. I didn't see them on JR but I can assure you that it must have been an off night. I very much doubt they'd be too upset if you didn't turn up to a free concert, I think they have enough fans to fill Wembley many times over ?
    II've just checked the jonny ross episode you were talking about and the clip of the elephant was just a photo.....there was no accompanying music. So not really sure how you can judge the quality of their music at a concert from a photo!
    THey are not to everyone's musical taste but having seen their live show, I think you be hard pushed to find anyone who didnt find it entertaining.
    Everything I've seen and heard lately (including the Jonathan Ross show which did show the elephant but I'm fairly certain they showed some of the show as well though could be wrong) has been absolutely amazing and stunningly excellent. I wouldn't say no to a free ticket! I think Liz it might just be you!
    Me too - downloaded a torrent of their last album and I didn't like it one bit. Guess it's just not my cup of tea.
    I got a free ticket to go see them live last week with my mum and sister, they were great live, really really good and I'm glad I went. I borrowed the CD to burn and I haven't bothered it's not a patch on them live.
    Liz, you're not the only one <ducks below the parapet> I thought they were bloomin awful on JR the other week. I think that Mark Owen can sound a bit ropy at times ? but other live shows, such as Children In Need, I thought they sounded really good. Never been to one of their shows though, so can't comment on them.
    From what I've seen clips of, they do seem to put on a spectacular event.
    I knew there had to be more people who thought so too! I liked how JR said 'no wonder Robbie didnt want to come back*' at the end! ?
    *or words to that effect.
    Never mind HH.... I'm a huuuge TT fan too.
    Avada..... ?
    Seriously now, I was ridiculed for my love of TT the first time round and now it seems everyone likes them (with some exceptions...?) They are a million times better live at their show than on a teeny studio stage and I have to admit their last album wasn't an instant "wow" for me. It's a grower though and now I think it's one of their best yet.
    I love Take That but even I have to admit that I thought they hit quite a few bum notes on the JR show ?
    Take That are anything but rubbish!!
    At the show I went to in Manchester the singing was fantastic....and the show....WOW!
    I came back and all I could think was that I wish my husband (who is anything BUT a TT fan) had come as well as he would have loved it.
    I think that in terms of spectacular live shows TT have not only raised the bar, they have made it pretty much unreachable for any other band.
    I would say Mark doesn't have the greatest voice. There is no question that gary can sing, and the boys can harmonise well. I didn't see JR, maybe they were awful. Things always seem to be not that great on there. On the other hand, I have heard some of Lady gaga live and she sounded fabulous, so I guess it's when you catch people.
    Regarding the live shows, clearly if you're not into the music they aren't going to be your cup of tea, but in terms of an actual show, it is amazing. On the other hand, I could have slept through James Morrison as support. He can sing well enough but to me his songs are dreary and dull.
    A rubbish band couldn't sell out Wembley Stadium (80,000 people a time) five nights in a row and there still be more demand.
    I'm not a fan of TT by any means - as pop music makes me shudder!
    But I can see that they are a talented bunch of guys and are good at what they do
    They were absolutely amazing last night and I don't know how they can ever top this tour. Gary has a great voice but the others can hold their own live as well. I love them so much, i felt like my 12 year old TT stalker self again last night, even with my husband there next to me this time ?
    I have to say, I wasn't sure about The Circus album but like someone else said, it's a real grower and I now love it. Mark Owen singin 'Up all night' last night was fantastic, I love Mark......
    Me too! I was actually quite annoyed that my H wanted to come with me. ? I loved it when Mark sang 'Hold up a light' at the end. Amazing! Now that I've been to the concert, I like the album so much more too.
    I was there too ? I was standing in between the main stage and the second stage, quite close, on the side the camera was recording for the video.
    I've turned into a teenage teenybopper again at the age of 30 after seeing them in Manchester. My husband is none too pleased that my obsession has resurfaced at full strength. I'm really quite tragic, I've joined the TT website forum and have been listening to them non-stop since. I've pre-ordered the DVD and have been rooting out obscure b-sides this afternoon. I even had a dream about Jay last night. There's no hope is there! ?
    Seriously though, is anyone else feeling a little bereft? I feel like I did at 14 which is worrying me, I thought I'd grown out of all this ?
    I actually feel quite relieved that you've posted - I am 35 and weirdly obssessed with TT at the moment. I did love them first time round, although I never saw them live. Seeing tham at Wembley on Weds has actually driven me a bit mad, I think. I literally can't get them out of my mind - and I seriously have a lot going on and don#'t usually give any time over to trivialities. I feel like a kid with a crush.
    Am trying to take mind off it all by booking some other stuff to see with H (while secretly thinking 'what's the point, it won't be as good as Take That').
    Btw, Radio One has take that hour on Monday, 9-10am I think
