Takeaways

Flowery the Grouch, 31 July, 2009 at 10:17 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 42

How often do you have takeaways? On the cost of food thread lots of people were talking about one or two takeaways a week.

The last time i had a takeaway was April 28th 2007 ? Living in a small, rural village in Switzerland will really curtail anyone's takeaway habit - there aren't any!

The last one was fish'n'chips on our last night in the UK. It was Mr FtG's birthday, all our furniture went in to storage earlier in the day, so everyone was sitting on the floor. I had my leg in plaster, so we had kept back a folding garden chair so I had somewhere to sit.

The last time we had a takeaway was last Saturday - we had chinese. Though the time before that was June. We are trying to curb how many times we have a takeaway in month and have now decided that we will either have a takeaway when H gets paid which is half way through the month or on my pay day which is at the end of each month.

Couple of friday's a month - mainly cos we're knackered on Fridays and I usually make it an excuse to go and see my parents so we have a takeaway/dvd night with them.

Probably once a month - it costs too much, and we always want to eat so much, so for our health and wealth we try not to eat it more often!

We probably have some kind of convenience food (Subway or a ready meal) once every 10 days - a fortnight as well which isn't great.

At least once a week and we eat out at least once a week too. Last week we ate out three times (two evening meals and a lunch) and no takeaways as I didn't want the house to smell of curry when we were selling it! ?

We're having a pub lunch tomorrow so probably won't have our usual Saturday night takeaway.

Probably once a month. We live next door to a chinese takeaway but are lucky that we dont succumb often to the temptation.

We've really cut down the amount of take away we have. It used to be once a week, now it's more like once a month and we've tried to stop eating out so much. We just can't afford and when we move to the new house we'll be even more skint. Also i tried to cut out take aways to try and help with the weight loss.

About once a week when we're both too tired to think about cooking. We also eat out about 3 times a month and rarely have lunch at home at the weekend.

Oh I'm so jealous. I shouldn't have started this thread ?

When we lived in Bristol we lived next door to a fab curry house, and used to get a takeaway every wednesday. Mr FtG worked in London three days a week (Mon-Wed), staying there mon and tuesday night, so when he came home on Wednesday he would phone the curry house as his train got into the station, and it would be waiting for him as he walked past the door. In retrospect it was hideous for both our bank balance and my waistline, but my god it was gorgeous. I miss decent curries.

God far too much, we had times when we probably had about 7 a week (or eating out) and on average about 5 a week. We've got that down to out for a meal about once a month and 2 or 3 a week which isn't ideal but we're getting there and home cooked meals are nearly always from scratch now (rarely used jarred sauces, frozen chips etc)

    This is us too.

We used to be awful for having takeaways, but since trying to loss weight, we have really cut down. I don't think it makes all that much difference in how much we spend on food TBH, not now we are buying more fresh fruit and veg, and better cuts of meat anyhow.

Once or twice a month max, we haven't been out for food since before christmas that we paid for anyway, my dad took us out to celebrate my graduation a few weeks ago to the local pub, twas very exciting (and proof there that I don't get out a lot)

We try for once a month for takeaways (and that wasn't included in my figures in the original thread and nor was eating out) and for a while it was lucky if we were getting it once every months. The only times we've "eaten out" this year has been when we've been camping and gone for either sunday lunch or fish and chips for saturday night dinner.

Though I've just thought about it and we've had a dominoes and chinese this month and now we really need to cut back this month as I'm not bringing any money in till the end of august and that's when we are going on holiday then (and we have 2 weddings to go to too in Sept)

We probably had takeaway or a giant M&S ready-made feast every week for a while (maybe for about 6 months while we were both working long days and it was a Friday treat). Now I've cut down to 4 days and we're much healthier so I can't remember the last time we had one. May maybe?
We do still eat out a lot though. Breakfast one day at the weekend, lunch Sat and Sun (and I eat lunch out every day at work but that's not really the same). Dinner out probably two or three times a week.

Erm once or twice a year? we live in the sticks so the only place that delivers is a local pub for anything else driving a 40 min round trip stops the desire for any other takeout (plus it's generally cool by the time we get home)

Hardly ever - 3 times a year max (although I will sometimes snaffle some of OH's chips if we've been to the pub). I find it hard to enjoy them as I worry about putting on weight too much. I realise this is a bit bonkers, but there you go. Poor OH - he loves a takeaway too.

We used to be very good, with a takeaway being a rare (once every 3 months) treat. It has slowly crept up to once a fortnight, which I think is more than enough.

Yo Sushi continues to be the source of much impromptu lunching though.

Usually once a week on either a Friday orSsaturday as by then i've run out of ideas of what to do for dinner and can't be bothered to cook.

Plus there is a new Indian takeaway/restaurant that has just opened a few streets away which is fantastic.

I really fancy an onion bhaji now.

We had an Indian takeaway about a month ago. We used to have pizza most Sunday nights but we've stopped because I just found it made me feel awful - takeaway pizza in this country is grimola, it's either a Pizza Hut stylee greasefest or the "wood fired" kind which is just rubbish. I don't understand why you can't get proper pizza delivered (I don't really see the point of takeaways you fetch yourself).

TBH I'd love to have takeaways more often - I think once a week is about right. But you just can't get anything I enjoy eating: I won't eat the chicken from Indian restaurants, Chinese takeaways ming, pizza is horrid, I won't eat takeaway burgers or chicken... the list goes on and on. And I don't consider myself a fussy eater ?

Once every two weeks or so, and always Indian.

Like SophieM, I have never found decent dleivered pizza (although we do have a good place you can collect from)- I've actually started buying Pizza Express pizzas from the supermarket occasionally for when I want a lazy pizza hit; they are much better than anything I've been able to get delivered (although still not amazing).

I've also never found a decent Chinese- it's always greasy and horrible. I'd love to find a good place as I love Chinese food.

Me too. I think perhaps it just doesn't travel well.

LOML has a local Japanese place that delivers though, that's actually really nice.

Shamefully, at least once a week. Usually a curry - from the fantastically named Holy Cow ?.

Mr Boop also has takeaway pizza on a Monday night when I'm teaching - he has apparently mislaid the cooking knowledge he had gained in the 15 years he lived away from home before moving in with me.

I'm with SophieM and Knownowt on the pizza and chinese front, and Pizza Express is decent enough, but quite cheap, so we just tend to go there occasionally. Not fantastic, but OK. We don't tend to eat takeaway that much (once or twice a month), and its always, always Indian. There is an online service in Belfast that correlates all the takeaway options, so maybe when we get into our house we'll explore Japanese/ Chinese from a decent restaurant stuff a bit more.

We eat out about once a week. I love food and cooking more than anything, and its how I get ideas for new recipes. Mr P calls the cost of it my cooking club subs. Beyond even that, though, I see eating as a very social thing, and eating out with H gives us time to talk about things that get forgotten about in daily life, and I absolutely look forward to those times.

If we are feeling flush or just fancy it, we will go for a full three courses, if not, the aforementioned Pizza Express or the Gourmet Burger bank nearby are fairly inexpensive, and we just won't drink/have a single glass of wine. Sometimes we head to student land for 5 pound burritos or similar, but again, I really value the time together.

My OH eats takeaways all the time but I have to be bullied into it! I really don't like the way I feel after or the smell it leaves in my house, I think the idea of a takeaway is nearly always alot better than the reality. I would much rather go out and eat.

Maybe twice a week, almost always Chinese or Japanese, and perhaps eat out once a week. Can't remember the last takeaway pizza I had (I find them very greasy), and I find Indian curries tend to be too salty and / or oily for my liking.

We try to keep it to once a month and it is normally Chinese. We live in a small village so no one delivers to us and we have to collect. We actually are quite lucky to have a really good Chinese in the next village so we get our takeaways from there and there is also a good independant pizza place only about 5 miles away that you can call in your order and it is ready by the time we have driven there.

We have one a week (on a Sat night).

I don't feel its shameful or wrong. We finish work at 5 or 6pm on a Sat and its the start of our weekend. We're both normally beyond knackered as we cram a lot of lessons in a short time so often only have a quick and uninspiring lunch whilst sat in the car so getting home and having something yummy delivered just in time for me to be out the shower and relaxing is fab.

Far too often I'm ashamed to say - neither of us is big on the cooking front. I actually realised the other week that in the space of a week we'd either eaten out or had takeaway of pretty much every description (Pizza Express, Indian, Chinese, chips from the kebab shop) ?

It's not normally quite that bad and I've been really good but when I slip, I slip...

I've not got much money at the moment and won't have for a while so I'm aiming for one takeaway and one meal out per month. As soon as I'm flush again it'll be one or two meals out a month and one takeaway a week - I can't wait to be honest!

The only takeaway I will eat is pizza. Like Sophie I refuse to eat chicken in an Indian, although I now only eat veggie Indian dishes.

Anyway, I tend to have a pizza takeaway every couple of months. MrG and I like making our own pizza, it's such fun. Before then I probably used to have takeaway pizza twice a month ?
