Taking a chance?

danath, 11 July, 2014 at 15:14 Posted on Planning 0 9

Ok so we rang the registry office today to sort date out to be told we cant more more than 12 months in advance (we decided on sept 2015) not a problem, but then we have narrowed it down to 2 venues for afterwards and both have said needs to book asap or they cant guarentee they will have date we want free!! do you just book anyway and hope and pray when time comes you can get same date in registray office? seems mad when venues take bookings years in advance but registry office dosnt scared to book anything now and we were on such a roll lol

I think it depends on where you are, we booked our May '15 date in Jan this year. We had booked the venue about 3 weeks before we booked the registrar (had to wait for payday to pay registrar's deposit) and were lucky they had a time we wanted, all others had almost gone!

But if everyone in your area has the same restrictions, then it won't be booked by anyone else until the dates are released.

This - I'm not sure how popular Sept weddings are but I suspect that as long as you call the registrars as soon as you can when your dates are released you should be fine. We had no problem booking ours but then November isn't as popular a month.

I had a bit of a mare sorting this out!

Origially when I phoned the registry office they said I couldn't book more than 12 months in advance. Our venue had pencilled us in and told me to book the registrar before we paid them the deposit. Told the venue about not being able to book, and they said it was odd because she had other couples who were already booked for dates after mine. So I rang again and the 12 month thing was only for people wanting to get married at the town hall, so booked it all up.

Every area is different so as no one can book in your area I'm sure you will be fine - just get in there ASAP exactly 12 months before! I'm sure you will get the date. Worst case would be maybe not your first choice of time.

We had the same thing. We booked our venue in July but couldn't book the registrar until September. As our wedding was a saturday in september and i was worried about not getting the time we wanted, I went down to the registry office 1 year to the day before our wedding to book. I got there at 8 (even though it didn't open until 9.30) and sat outside waiting. They let me in at 9.20 and took my booking. The phone was ringing constantly from 9.25 onwards.

It might sound a bit excessive going down there but we got the time we wanted so it was worth it Smiley smile

Yeah just get down there FIRST THING! Carry on and book your venues, just remember, they can do more than one ceremony a day, so if someone does happen to get in there before you, then you can still go for an alternative time Smiley smile I have had to book our registrar and reception venue 2 years in advance, but the ceremony venue, as it is a castle, cannot be booked more than 13 months in advance... so I will have to get on the phone first thing too! Better stick a reminder on my phone actually....

Sounds like Bia57 had the right idea about physically going and sitting outside the office, just in case.

What a pain though. Stupid systems all round. Glad I was able to book registrar and venue on the same day in my area (14 months in advance).
