Talk some sense into me

jaz, 3 April, 2008 at 12:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

I posted a while ago about cancelling our summer holidays due to lack of funds. We decided to hold off to cancel just before we had to pay the balance to see how we were by then as you don't lose any more than the deposit either way until then which was the end of May some time.

Anyway I've received a call to say due to the airline changing their rate structure we will have to pay the balance by next week which we could do but on CCs which we would have done anyway but we still have a lot to pay off as it is.

I can't bear to cancel as I would really love to go and we might not have the chance to go again. On the other hand, we still have a long way to go before paying off our CCs as it is (though I pay get a bit of a bonus next month which would help), the price is in euros and with the old economy the way it is we should really start saving rather than adding to debt.

I fele really tearful at the thought of cancelling [:I] Talk some sense into me but be gentle

Can they actually change when you have to make payment just like that? What does the contract you got when you paid the deposit say?

That aside, I think you need to consider whether the buzz you'll get from having a week's holiday is worth more to you than adding onto your debt and the associated stress that handing and paying those might cause you.

I think you need to think about the long term consequences. You may enjoy the holiday in the short term but it would be terrible if you got back and were so worried about paying it off that it made your life horrible. I would save up instead and then perhaps you could go in the future when you have got a bit more money together. I'm sorry - it must be tough?

    [cough] 2 weeks ?

I think from talking to the man we can wait and pay in May but the price will have increased considerably due to the airline but he's to get back to me on how much it is.

I think once it's cancelled, I'll be fine it's just the idea of finally cancelling it and it definitely being over and not having it to look forward to iykwim [:I]

    Sorry, 2 weeks ?

I don't understand how they can change the price on you when you've already booked, though. Is there something in the terms and conditions which allows them to do that?

It is/was Thailand. I guess we could look at going again but then I think we've paid some of it already which we'll lose so we'll probably never get it as cheap again but then it would be a bit of a false economy to go ahead I suppose.

I'll email you now debs ?

I'm not sure - it's Trailfinders? I think it's something to do with because we haven't paid the whole balance that the price can changed. They asked us before - the day before our wedding I think it was ? if we could pay the whole thing as there would be a price increase due to the airline changing something. We didn't as the increase wasn't that much then.

I should really check the small print I suppose ?
