Talk to me about hair straighteners

Icklefee, 10 October, 2013 at 23:03 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 22

I never really bought into the whole GHD hype. I have quite fine hair with more of a wave than a curl and it's just past chin length so have never felt the need for anything fancy. I had the remington shine therapy ones for years which were fine, when they broke I bought the smallest, cheapest babyliss ones (a whole £7.99 of them!). They do the job on a day to day basis when I don't want super sleek locks but I do need something a bit better for when I'm actually making an effort. This morning I was running late and did the school run with freshly washed, un-straightened hair. I popped into a friends for breakfast and realised my hair was a disaster so I borrowed her GHD. Bird's nest to super-sleek in 3 minutes. Do I really need to spend £100 plus to achieve this or is there something equally amazing for less or something better for the same money?

My colour at home hairdresser has some great remingtons ones and had them on sale at argos for about £40 and my hair was supersoft and sleek just like ghd's .. think they are now about the £70-80 mark

I've got really thin and fairly straight hair. I used GHD's as they are the only ones that really work on my hair. I've has my set for 7 years, so they've lasted really well.

I spent years trying out straighteners. GHDs are by far the best. Fact.

I've had Remingtons for years. My hair is really thick, coarse and naturally curly, but I get lovely hair with them.

I don't like my hair to be flat. I like volume. GHDs are great for getting super smooth poker straight hair, but they're a bit *too* good for my liking.

I have long, and extremely thick hair so GHD's are the only straighteners that do the job, I've tried a few and I always go back to GHD's.

With your hair being short and fine, there must be something on the market for half the price that would do the same job as GHD's would, I definitely think it's worth doing your research. That said if you can afford £100 then just bite the bullet and get the best.

My GHD's broke last November. I was just about to leave work so money was tight and I thought I'd try some cheaper ones. I spent £50 on some that were in the sale, they don't compare to GHD's at all so ended up buying some GHDs for my birthday so in the space of 7 months I spent £170 instead of just coughing up the £120 to start with.

I also love my GHD's and have had them for about 8 years now, would be lost without them.

I have heard VERY good things about Cloud 9 hair straightners though; they are made by the previous owner of GHD. Apparently GHD's (if you buy them now) arent as good as they used to be when they first came out - or so I've heard!

I also have GHD's. I've bought various cheaper alternatives on eBay, claiming to be as good, one even said they were made at the same place as GHD's but they never match up. The only ones I have ever seen that are as good, if not better, were some ginormous things my friend had imported from Italy but I don't know what they were called. She has massive bush hair and it went from wurzel to super sleek and it would stay that way for days.

I have really annoyingly horrible long, thick, wavy hair. I use some vidal sassoon ones that I bought before university (over 7 years ago!), they have been amazing, I think they only cost me £20 at the time.

Another vote for GHDs too! I have ones with a wide plate as I have fine hair but lots of it (if that makes sense) and they cost less than £100.

I would be lost without them which is a bit sad really....

I expected lots of votes for GHD's but am quite surprised at how unanimous it is! Ah well, I know what I'm off to purchase now. Thank you ladies Smiley smile
