Talk to me about jeans...

Rod, 6 October, 2013 at 21:48 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 31

Hey otters!

I need some jeans. Simple, you may think...ohhh no. Not for me!

I like skinny jeans. But I can never get them to fit so always end up wearing jeggings. I have a small waist, big bum and quite thick legs. I flit between a 10 and 12 but can never get jeans to fit nicely.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get some decent fitting jeans? Preferably no more than £50 but I'd consider going a bit higher. Also, should I get dark denim or black?

Thanks in advance!

Xx

Topshop Baxter jeans are the only ones that fit me.

I'm similar to you. I wear a 10 but I have a slimmish waist and a big bum, my legs aren't that thick though. My favourite jeans are next skinny jeans, they fit so well and I've had the same pair for about 3 years now. And that was my second pair, the ones before that lasted about a year.

I also have real trouble finding jeans - I have quite a big bum and a smaller waist (in comparison) so I always find they're either too big around waist or don't go up over my thighs. The only brands I've ever found work for me are miss sixty (expensive but last for ever) and Jane Norman. Asos often have Miss Sixty jeans on sale too, which makes them cheaper. As I'm typing this I've just remembered I also recently found a good pair in River Island too - they do jeans with a mid rise waist too, which I find a bit more flattering.

I only really wear new looks high waisted jeans, they range from £22-£30ish, I just get high waisted but they have the shaper jeans as well.
I love them and can't go back to ordinary jeans now, they fit nicely round my waist and bum and after having a kid they hide any flabby bits away well and make my tummy look flat which is good Smiley smile

Currently my favourite pair are a pair from Hobbs. They were £85 but I got them in an outlet and in the sale, so only cost me £25! :-O

I'm also small, but have big thighs (thanks for that mother!), so struggle to find skinny jeans that fit well on the waist and thigh!

Just spotted the question on colour - my answer would be both! But, it depends what colours you wear - I find dark denim goes with more than black does (especially things like brown boots which I wear a lot in the winter), but I feel like black jeans look a bit smarter if you're pairing them with a nice top for a night out.

Next jeans here too because I need petite length and in other shops petite ranges seem to assume we have little birdy legs. They do quite a wide range varying from £20 to around £45 for the lift and shape ( I don't recommend those - most of them have no belt hoops!) The £26 skinnies and boot cut are the best I've found. I also have a small waist and larger bottom and legs and they are well cut for this shape. You also tend to get away with the smaller size as long as you don't tumble dry them.

Opooooooh now I hate next jeans. I bought a pair and they are so stretchy and cheap feeling.im sure there may be much better ones in there but I was not a fan of thier skinnies.

petite is too short for me but I am still a 30 inch leg. Very frustrating.

I need stretchy... veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery stretchy - I retain a lot of water and can literally change size within the space of a few hours. The skinnies do lose shape when you've worn them a couple of times but soon as they're washed they usually go back into shape.

My last few pairs were from h & m cost about 30 quid.

They are stretchy but not so stretchy they lose their shape or need hoiking up all the time

I hate jean shopping, it's so hard to get a good fit!

Another vote for Gap here. My calfs can't fit into skinny jeans but their jean-leggings are much more jeany than leggingy, if that makes sense, and they fit nicely around my small waist and big bum.

If you can only afford one pair then I'd go for dark denim because they still look ok after lots of washes whereas black jeans have a pretty limited lifetime before they turn grey.

I'm so 90s I love my bootcut style!

i love new look 'hula' ones which I have in 8, 10,12 and 14. Normally I wear the 10 as everyday and the 8 as 'skinny' jeans. Post baby I am in the 14 and 12. More the 14

I love my bootcut jeans, too! I find it's the only style that suits me as I have a big bum & thighs but thinish ankles which looks odd in regular jeans. Plus I can wear my walking books easily with them.

I tend to get my jeans from Tesco as they're cheap and will do for work.

I get mine from Long Tall Sally as they are the only place that do them long enough in the leg for me.

Topshop, Baxter here too, its the only thing I do my in topshop. Or I have been known to buy French Connection, which last forever.... I do think jeans are one of those things that you can warrant spending a bit extra cash on.

I tend to buy New Look or Next bootcut, though I'm finding both loose their shape after a few washes (this could be my fault though). I've got a lovely pair of Gap bootcut jeans but they are now too big Smiley sad

After reading this thread I'm going to try different shops as I'm in need of another pair.

I second New Look shaper jeans, they are the only jeans that fit nicely on my big hips and bum and aren't baggy on the legs, they fit the legs lovely and you get different leg lengths too. I have found they wash really well too.

I have the same problem and its impossible to get jeans. I once tried for 2 years straight to get a pair of jeans to fit and eventually got a pair in Gap. Therefore, I recommend Gap for your jeans but that said, I tend to just wear leggings or jeggings now because they are much more comfortable.

I had a few Jane Norman and Miss Sixty pairs that were just perfect but I wore them out!

My current faves are actually £19.99 from Matalan!!
