Talk to me about shoes

2b_MrsB, 17 September, 2012 at 22:19 Posted on Planning 0 37

Evening everyone,

I really can't decided about bridal shoes -

One day I have my sensible head on and I'm certain that I want some which are quite plain of mid height as -

1) I feel my dress (Ronald Joyce Isis)has enough detail and plain satin would be best ..

2) they wont be seen under my dress so I set a budget of £50/60 as i'll not wear them again

3) despite normally wearing higher evening shoes(makes me feel taller lol), the sensible me says get some of a lower height ( maybe 2- 2 1/2 inches ) because I'll have them on longer

But then this changes and I start looking a higher more decorative shoes which cost more so all previous common sense goes out the window ! ?

So what were/are all of your thoughts on shoes ???

reasonably priced comfortable shoes as they will only be worn for one day and then not even seen under your dress

or

thinking to hell with it, its your wedding day so sensibility doesn't come into it and you've coped with numb feet at the end of many nights before so you can do it again.

Feel free to flash your shoes as inspiration for me too ?

    Good question!

I tried on the Winslet Benjamin Adams shoes and loved them, but wasn't going to pay the £199 the shop was asking. I went through the same dilemma as you, yes they're beautiful, no they won't be seen, yes they're really comfortable, no they're way too expensive.....

I then went around trying other shoes on that would be suitable, but not necessarily 'wedding' shoes, and they were no where near as comfortable. I then found them for sale on the Internet for £169, and went for it. I have never spent anywhere near that amount on shoes as I'm normally in converse or wearing flats for work, they look beautiful and I love them, and we've not been extravagant with most of the things for the wedding.... So why the hell not, go for it!!!!

    Sorry I can't flash, but here's a link.....http://www.elegantsteps.co.uk/products/Benjamin-Adams-Winslet-Wedding-Shoes.html

I'm no use for sensible advice I have just ordered a £210 pair from rainbow club, they are a fairly sensible height, but not a sensible price, at all! Ooooops!

I've not bought new shoes! (well, kind of!) I'm wearing a pair of big bright blue heels that I already have and love (and I need all the extra height I can get - I'm a short arse!)

But even thought I know they're comfy because I've worn them numerous times before, I know I'll need something even more comfy as the night goes on so have bought a pair of flat blue sandals for dancing. So I've 2 pairs of wedding shoes for £50.

I'm hoping this gives me the best of both worlds!

For ages I've been like 'yes, i will have plain heels, maybe a bit of sparkle, with a decent size heel'....that has now gone out the window and I've fallen in love with Le Soulier - bespoke hand painted shoes (http://www.lesoulier.co.uk/). I will have to provide the shoes myself, so will probably still get some decent size heels, but they will now be soooooo pretty! I'm not normally a shoes person, I live in £20 trainers until they fall apart, and rarely wear heals.....but I loooooove these shoes! And can't wait, I've had to negotiate with my OH to get them (I have to sell a pair of GHDs and Herstylers in order to part fund them, so if anyone wants a pair of either!?!)

I was a bad bride and never bothered about shoes. The ones I wore were a few years old and plain black flat shoes (dress was blue and black so they did match!) I can't wear heels and I saw no point for me to spend loads on shoes. I think I still ended up barefoot at the end of the night!

My clever mum spotted some Kurt Geiger ones online that she thought were 'so me' and they were in the sale so she ordered them for me, before I had even bought my dress. I ended up choosing a dress that matched them perfectly (not on purpose) so she did very well!

This is them, they're not very sparkly but I love them. They are more ivory in real life.

She also got me some flat ones for the evening but I can't walk in them without tripping over my dress! So if my feet hurt I will change into my engagement party shoes and then I will be sparkly! I'll just get blisters in different places hopefully!

Mummynoo - your shoes are lovely ! sadly whilst I might be a dainty 5ft small short arse I do have broad feet so strappy sandals are out for me ☹️

snow-woman - i totally get the need for as much height as you can get and if your wearing shoes you already have then your something old is sorted ?

Sophamie - le soulier hand painted shoes are amazing !! you lucky woman !! ....if you don't mind me asking , how much do the charge ?

terri - whether those shoes can be seen under your dress or not .....make sure EVERYONE gets a good look at them anyway !...they're amazing so I know i would

As for my dilemma !! ...it continues ......................

Both my dress and my bouquet are sparkle ...can a woman have too much sparkle ?? ?

The price depends on how much work you have done to them, but they are usually around £175 for the paint work, it's a lot, but I think it's worth it.... I've always said I would never spend that much...until I came across these, it's taken me 3 months to persuade my OH that I can have them!

Tizzie I remember your dress !! ....I never ended up barefoot as i know once my shoes come off they'll NEVER get back on when I want to go home

Hazyclaire - Both your shoes are fabulous and get the "to hell with it vote " in my decision ? and on a side note I booked both Katie and Sarah so thanks

The price is actually ok when you consider the work that will go into them.

If I mention the price of shoes to my OH he just glazes over and reminds me of the budget limit !

I had originally got my OH to agree that over £150 was excessive for a pair of shoes, but as I've agreed to sell a few things then he's agreed to it, but as I said it took much persuasion! Keep working on him, it may pay off in the end. Tell him it will make your day perfect if you have the shoes blah blah blah, just make him feel bad until he gives in (yes, I know, I'm a bad person!! Smiley tongue)

I wore Benjamin adams 'Hathaway' £160& also got irregular choice mini magic floral for evening £65... Most I've spent on shoes was a pair of fly boots @ £150, which I've got loads of wear from. Your tog will take pics of your accessories, even in a long dress he may ask you to lift it up to get a picof your shoes on your feet, guests will ask to see etc.my proper shoes were 8cm which was high enough for me to wear for so long & my feet still ached at night. Was v glad of my second pair.

Ifyou see your dream shoes & can afford them - have them! Men don't understand about us ladies & footwear ?

If it makes you feel any better I've been having the same dilemma!

Usually on a night I'll wear 4" heels but I'm worried about being in them for 11 hours. I tried some shoes on in Next yesterday, I loved the high ones, and they were very me (all sparkly) but the lower heel ones might be more appropriate and for £32 I don't mind if I don't wear them again much.

I haven't properly decided yet, but I'm not a heel wearing kind of girl, but I know my posture is much better in heels, so I'm thinking of something like this

Hopefully, I'll be comfortable all day, not too high and wedges not stiletto types for me falling over and I'd probably wear them again.

I bought these from Amazon for £90 - they came and they are a little bit too high but too beautiful to send back!! So I think I'll wear them for the legal ceremony on the Friday and maybe get a pair of more sensible ones on the Saturday….

Hey, they were Sarah Full Crystal Ivory Wedding Shoes Perfect Bridal Shoes by Verdon Trading - I got the size 5 and they fit perfectly, sometimes I can be a 5.5 so was worried they would be too small. They came really quickly (£90 included the postage) in a lovely box! I loved the Benjamin Adams ones but couldn't justify the cost and these look the same!

I was actually very very very lucky, and mine were actually bought as an incentive from work.

My two shoe options (am going to go with the peep toes).

Not sensible or comfy, but cheap! Both from Next at £32 for the closed toes and I think £35 for the peep toes. There is also a matching wristlet bag for £10.

Will have some personalised converse and flip flops for the evening, should the blisters become too much! x
