Tanning

*Matilda*, 5 February, 2013 at 09:55 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi guys,

Is anyone tanning for their wedding? I am naturally quite fair and have never been on a sunbed in my life but I definitely look a lot better when I am tanned and my wedding is in the summer so am considering what to do. I thought I would get a natural looking spray tan but really hate the idea of being naked while someone sprays me.. am also worried that it might rub off on my dress. I've always been really against sunbeds but am considering doing it once in my life for my wedding.

Anyone who regularly tans give me some advice please - feel a bit clueless about it all!

Thanks

I will be sunbeding it up for a healthy glow. If you thinking of going down this route start off with maybe 4 minute session and slowly build up.

i personally don't like fake tans as I feel they make me just look dirty haha. But I know some tanning shops just have a booth you stand in and it sprays you automatically you don't have to stand naked in front of someone.

I wear fake tan for special occassions but I seen a photo of a bride who had a spray tan, and you could just see in the photos and it looked awful.

I've also seen brides with it staining the underarm of their dress etc.

For this reason I'm going to use stand and tan for a 'glow' - I'm not sure how long beforehand I will go for, maybe 2-3 times a week for 6 weeks?

Having not really used them before I'm not sure whats best so if anyone can help that would be appreciated.

I'm fair so don't tan easily!

If you do use sunbeds I would advise taking it slowly. I will be using them as opposed to fake tan.

Try 3 mins first and build yourself up slowly. This is what I'll be doing as I haven't been on them for a while.

Also pay attention to eye care - you want to protect your eyes but also avoid getting white circles around them.

I can recommend a gradual fake tan that I find good for last min occasions - Palmer's coca butter gradual tan - because it's very moisturising it looks very natural.

I would opt for sunbed over spray, just make sure you get it done before a make up trial as well, so that the make up artist can match your foundation shade correctly Smiley smile And if anything err on the under rather than overside because you want it to look like you could've just caught the sun, rather than risk going tango'd. Perhaps do a trial run so you can judge how tanned you want to go!

How long would you guys expect someone to have to visit a tan salon until they have a glow?

Good tip RE make-up trial. My MUA wants to do my trial now - 6 months ahead? Is there a need?

I would prefer closer to the time as well for the reason of sunbeds etc.

Maybe I could tie it into my hen do!

I think 4 visits is enough - but every person's skin is different.

Maybe give it a bash now to see how many visits will give you the results you're looking for and then you can copy this closer to the time.

As some one has said don't go too tanned - ask the opinions of friends to keep perspective on how tanned you have become.

I'm very anti sun-beds, so I will be going as I am on my wedding day.

Can't understand why anyone would risk skin cancer for a 'healthy glow' on their wedding day TBH.

Yeah, to be honest I don't want to do a trial based on not wanting to go anymore than I have too.

I understand Bubbles POV but obviously don't feel as strongly or wouldn't go near them at all.

I kind of look at it as I've never smoked etc so hopefully a few sunbed sessions won't do me any harm.

An opinion that needs to be heard when making decisions to use sun beds. My FMIL is a skin nurse and has many stories to tell about sun beds.

Though the danger is supposedly reduced for people that are over 35 years.

What a very Naive comment !! What has the risk of skin cancer have to do with smoking?.

I agree with kirstabubble and the whole natural skin but if you want a tan why take risks when there are other safer options?

It was more along the lines of I've never done anything to jeopardize my health before where as a lot of people do.

Therefore I would hope I would be able to use a sunbed a few times without harming my health.

And yes, I know its a 'risk' but the was my point with smoking - plenty of people smoke and don't get cancer despite smoking being known for being a cause of cancer.

I will be taking a few trips to the sun beds.

It's good to have balance in conversations concerning things like this. We should also bear in mind how many things are harmful to our health.

It's very hard to be perfect.

Thanks guys, it's really interesting to hear what everyone thinks.

I am still undecided but might try out a spray tan trial to test the results. I heard a new one, Sienna X, is being used a lot now instead of St Tropez, as it's more natural and less orange. I might brave a person spraying me or look into a booth. Havn't ruled out the sunbed though, I know it's not safe but it really would be the only time I used it and have also never jeopardised my health with smoking, etc, so would feel slightly less guilty about it!

Is interesting hearing different points of view though.

I know anyone can be unlucky enough to get skin cancer, but is the association of it with sunbeds from people who use it quite regularly? Or is it even applicable to people who pop in for just 1 visit?

This! I'll probably either get a spray tan or use a gentle tanning cream. I'm not particularly experienced with either so will have to have an experiment before hand,

Im with the anti sunbed crew so will be going for a spray tan.

I normally use Sienna X and it gives a really nice colour. I will just have a lighter shade on the wedding say so its more of a glow than full on tan.

if you were thinking of having a spray tan i recommend Sienna X and you could try out different shades before the day to see which one works best for you. Spray tanning has become alot more variable over the years so not everyone is given the same 'orange' look Smiley smile

    xx
