Tattoo - cover it up or wear it proud?

moonpie1985, 22 October, 2011 at 17:48 Posted on Planning 0 23

I recently went on holiday to USA where I got another Tattoo. It will be the only one visible when wearing my wedding dress. My dad doesn’t know I got it, and doesn’t particulary like that I have tattoos anyway.

Should I wear it proud or get it covered?

I suppose the obvious question is what is the tattoo?

I'm assuming you love it or you wouldn't have got it so I say be proud and show it.

I have 5 tattoos and love them. However I have opted to have those that show covered on the day of the wedding. I think it looks better with my dress and plus when I look back in years I may not want to see them. If that makes sense??

If you love it then I would show it. I am covering mine they are awful. I have had about 10 laser removal sessions so they look like huge bruises anyway. They are down both arms aswell. I have just bought tattoo secret cover kit which was reccommended as I cant really afford anymore treatments with the cost of the wedding xx

Show them off. I have over 20, all of which will be on show. A couple in my half sleeve even determined the "theme" of our wedding...

The only one of mine that would be showing is on my shoulder blade which has OH and childrens names, but I am hoping my hair will cover it, as I don't really want it showing. I personally don't like tattoos on show in a wedding dress, but thats my opinion.

Classic hitched thread on tattoos here https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/t/190784.aspx?PageIndex=1

The comment about all women with tattoos being "chavvy slappers" was my fave by far in all my hitched days.

If you have tatts I cannot understand why you would cover them up just for the wedding? Surely they are part of you? I wouldnt go out of my way to hide them if I had them in visible places.

The only tattoo of mine that won't be hidden by my dress is the tattoos on my chest. I am absolutely desperate to cover them up so going to try a few things before the actual date. I did toy with getting them lasered but I just can't afford it at the minute.

Luckily mine are quite faded now as they weren't good quality to begin with and are almost 7 years old

I'll post a piccy below if people could give me their opinions / experiences on how well they will cover?

I have 4, ankle, back and both shoulders....all except my back piece will be on display as I am very proud of them but I can understand why you might want to cover it if its not that good or your not proud. I suppose it depends if your proud of it and want people to see it then go for it Smiley winking

Personally I don't like to see tattoos on a bride, maybe I'm just old fashioned?! I have 2 tattoos and I LOVE them, but I chose their placing very, very carefully so that they weren't actually 'hidden' (ie I can still show them off whilst wearing perfectly decent clothes!) but that they would be dead easy to cover.

'Could you see it in a strapless ballgown?' is my acid test, because I go to a fair number of 'classy' balls now and am sure to still be going to them when I'm an old lady and I can't imagine wanting tats on show then!

I'm dying to get a celtic patterned seahorse on my leg (up my calf muscle) but I try to imagine feeling comfortable showing it off in a charity ball situation and I just can't, so I probably won't get it done.

Wow - thank you for all the excellent responses, from both points of view.

I just really cant decide and guess I will have to think about it closer to the time.

I love all my tattoos and very proud of all of them. This last one i got is the only one that shows when wearing any sort of clothes.
