Tattoo placement

MrsShep, 17 May, 2015 at 14:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 40

I'm thinking of getting an ankh tattoo for our anniversary as it means eternal life and we went Egypt for our honeymoon. But I'm not sure where to put it! So, where would you put it? I was thinking about on my wrist but I'm a bit wary of visible tattoos. Tatto wise I've got one on my lower back, one on my left shoulder, and one on my right ankle already, but they're big ones, and I'm thinking this will be smaller. Go! ;-)

I always fancied one on my rib cage, or below my right boob and to the right a bit, to be more precise.

I'd love one there but I'm a bit too wobbly for that! Haha. Current thought is the inside of my left ankle, just a little one, which makes a change for me!

I should of added, take my recommendations with a pinch of salt...I don't even have any tattoos so probably not the best person to give suggestions.

And you're nearly on 4k posts, MrsShep!

Back of your neck? I have seen a few people with tattoos on the front of the foot, you can always hide this and show it when you please x

Aww, smurfette that's weeny! Love the back of the ear but I can't hide it, I don't really want anything like that because of work (interviews etc) same with the back of the neck pink and glitz. I said small coz my others are pretty big! I was considering top of my thigh (on the side) but wasn't sure if it'd look odd

Yep, ear and neck tattoos may potentially harm your job prospects. Maybe I'm old and sensible but unless I knew I had a secure profession for life (or could afford to not work), I wouldn't get tattooed there. I would love to go on to my hands but won't for the same reason.

The ankh would work on inner wrist but again might tie you to always having to wear long sleeves (as I would be if I ever got a job where they weren't allowed). Top of foot? Shoulderblade?

Wrote a reply but seems to have disappeared. Hopefully this won't be a duplicate.

What about on your hip? Or inside of the top part of your arm? (Think Lady Gaga).

As Superhanka says, may not give the best advice as I have no tattoos!

Yeah, I could probably cover a wrist one with a watch, but not ear or neck. These are the ones I have now

Yeah, my watch mostly covers the one I have of mine and H's initials. Or, it would if the strap wasn't slightly too big for me and didn't slide around. But you can't wear a watch during healing time, which is weird if you're used to always wearing one.

Haha i agree with visible (hands, necks etc) tattoo's and work.. my thoughts with my ear was i could kinda cover it up........ and i really wanted it so sod it ... my job don't allow visible tattoos, however their rule is also to have hair tied back, so they've chose to ignore the ear tattoo so far ... been about 2 years now and no one has said a thing..

They are very strict with the arms tho, no short sleeves for me Smiley sad

I'm very lucky in that I work in the arts where tattoos are not an issue. But I am always aware that I might want to or have to get a different job where they are strict about these things.

On your heel? Just off to the side of your belly button? Upper inner thigh?

Haha, its a fun game isn't it! H isn't much use, although he agrees to go smaller than my others. I've always taken the mickey a little bit of teeny tattoos though so not sure how small. Hip bone or side boob are possibilities, but again I'm not sure because of the way I carry weight.

What about the side of your hip/top of thigh?

very easy to cover but can be shown off in a bikini/swimming costume

Yeah, that's one of the top contenders at the moment sorbet, I'm just a little worried that a smallish tattoo in black and grey on that large area of skin will look a bit odd, a little at odds with my others.

Good question. It is so hard to decide. How about sticking with the parts of you body that you like and are comfortable with? I was contemplating where to have one, unfortunately the places where l think it would typically look good for the type of tattoo then l don't like that area of my body.

Was just thinking (and tell me if this is a stupid idea). Could you get a few tattoo transfers made up in different sizes and have a play about with a few positions?

Sort of like, try before you buy?

Good point Erin, lots of people would go for the ribs for this one, but I'm just not sure, that area isn't somewhere I would want to show off.

Helen, not as daft as it sounds, I did draw on myself a bit at the weekend!

This might be an idea too small for you/might not even be possible, but how about on your ring finger? Your rings would cover it for the most part, but you and your husband will know it's there as a symbol for your first anniversary?

This will sound awful (especially on a wedding website) but I wouldn't get a tattoo on my ring finger, in case we split up/he dies. Morbid but practical! Haha. It's taken a lot of thought to get as far as getting a tattoo that has meaning (my others don't) Smiley smile

No, I get that. Very sensible!

In that case, I'd go for the ankle. I may be way off the mark, but I'd imagine it's less painful than having the needle jabbed into your ribs/side boob.

I don't have tattoos in either place, but some of the bigger ones on my legs are heading towards the ankle region, and it's not terrible. Not as easy as outer arm cos it's less fleshy and more bony, but not as bad as shoulder blade or inner wrist. Obviously all that stuff depends on your pain threshold too - I tolerate pain pretty well. (Says the person who has been feeling sorry for herself for over 48hrs now following a tooth extraction - obviously dental stuff is different for me!)

I have tattoos on my thumbs, but in white ink. No one notices them unless I point them out. I've had them for 3 years, work in a respectable job meeting clients etc and no one has ever noticed them. Might be an idea to look at white ink?

I have a little anchor on my foot, it's cute! Also have a few in the clavicle region. Ankle would be a good place as well.

My ankle tattoo was by far the most painful of the three I have! The pain side of things isn't an issue though, it'll take so much less time than the others, I can suck it up for that long!

Callela, please don't think I'm being rude but I really dislike white tattoos. Think they're a bit of an acquired taste Smiley smile Any chance of a flash of your anchor?

I think inner ankle is currently winning

How about along the side of your middle finger sort of between your fingers?

Seen a few people with small tattoos there and you don't really see them unless you hold your hand in an obvious way. Just another option.

I'm not offended, tattoos in general can be an acquired taste, and I know my white ones are as well. I love them regardless, they're so subtle and special to me because it feels like they're just for me! I'm trying to get a picture of my anchor, will flash it when I can! It's maybe about the size of a 50p piece, maybe slightly smaller.
