Tattoo Removal

michonne, 29 September, 2013 at 18:23 Posted on Planning 0 18

Just wondering if anybody had any tattoos removed before their big day, if so was the tattoo successfully removed? was it painful? If you live in Manchester where did you go to get it/them removed?

I have several tattoos one on my left wrist, one on my right forearm and two on each arm near each shoulder, what an idiot was I. I'm desperate to be rid of them.

It will hurt and it will scar. Speak to your GP and find out who the dermatology dept of your local hospital recommend

How about covering up? I have a quarter sleeve (which i like!), but will wear a bolero for the ceremony, then get the tats out later.

Have you considered cover up work? Research good cover up tattooists on the internet for that option.

How about make up? You can get specialist cover up make up that people use to cover birthmarks etc. Might be a consideration?

Thank you yes I will speak to my doctor.

I'm pretty set on the dress I'm wearing, and its strapless so thats not an option.

I thought about covering them up but I'd prefer to remove them all together.

From the weddings that I have shot the cover up makeup never seems to cover 100% and you can always still see a faint tatoo. And I have always had to do the rest in photoshop aftrer. Also you will heve to re- apply through the day as you hug ect it will wear off. Ok you could of see some before and after photos of fantastic cover up --but that most likley will not of been "real world " make up that you have to live in for a whole day.

So make-up is not an option, I think I'll go with the laser removal.

Mine is strapless too, and it totally rocks with a bolero. I do suggest trying one on to see what you think. You get two looks for the day then too.

I might just go with that as I like boleros, but I'm seriously considering laser removal.

Dont take my word for it as I do not know what was used - how it was put on or who put it on-MUA or diy, its just every time ive seen it that is my experiance. You should look into it and maybe have a try and see how it goes

When it comes to laser removal, if i'm not mistaken it often takes several sessions to completely get rid of a tattoo and even then it can't be guaranteed unfortunately. Each session then has to be taken several weeks apart. Off of the top of my head I think it might be 8 weeks ish between sessions, so factor that into your planning and timings before the wedding if you can.

A friend removes tattoos professionally and from what i've heard it's not pleasant- but then no pain no gain I suppose.

Best of luck finding somewhere locally. I hope it goes well and that they drop out nice and easily for you ?

I've not had any removed thankfully happy with all tattoos I've had done.
Good tattoo shops will do it and it should take a few sessions for most unless it's really small & faded ink.
I think it is a bit painful, have heard it compared to a burning sensation..but then probably no more painful than the tattoos themselves and if you want rid of them that much i'm sure it'd be worth it.
I think it leaves a bit of a scar as well so you'll end up covering that with make up possibly.

My friend had a few small tattoos removed before her wedding. Well, she wanted them removed, but all it did was fade them a bit, and left them all blotchy.

    That doesn't sound too promising.

They looked worse after "removal", than if she had just left them TBH.

My tattoo artist has a lot of ink. Although on one forearm she has her first ever tattoo and it's a bit naff.....in her own words :-) She is having it lasered off. She has said she would rather go through 36 hours of labour again, with no pain relief rather than ever have a tattoo removed! She has to have it done in 10 minute sessions as she can't take any more than that. Bearing in mind she has a lot of ink coverage & will go under the needle for a day at a time....she is hardcore.

She has also been told that as her first one was actually done well...it'll never fully disappear. It's just going to fade enough that she can cover it with something else. So you really do need to look as to whether or not it's worth it. They also take several sessions and to get rid of one tattoo can take months even a good few years!

I have a big tattoo (from my shoulder to my knee); I also dance in my spare time. When I do I show I'm not allowed it on display....it doesn't really suit a ballet tutu :-) I use professional scar make up and it disappears. It really is great stuff!

Good luck!!! And I hope you find the right thing for you.

    xx
